The goals of this research were to identify the allomorph of morpheme {buN-}, describe its affixation process, and determine the function of the allomorphs. The qualitative method was applied to gather the data from an informant who was done by recording technique on the field research. The informant was a Bidayuh-Somu language native speaker. The collected data included the derivational words derived from free morpheme that was root, base, and bound morpheme. The free and bound morpheme were then sorted into nominal and verbal class, as well as described qualitatively. Affixation as one of the morphological processes to derive complex derivational word in Bidayuh-Somu Language involved free and bound morpheme. Morpheme {buN-} was chosen as an example to describe the process of affixation in deriving complex derivational word of the language. It is found that the morpheme {buN-} is a prefix and verbal, affixed to the verb, and noun and adjective. Therefore, it functions both as class-maintaining and class-changing. Moreover, it is identified that the morpheme {buN-} has five allomorphs, namely /bu-/ with its alternant /bur-/ and /b-/, and /bum-/, /bun-/, /buN-/ and /bu-/. AbstractThe objectives of this study are to investigate sorts of error on subject-verb agreement encountered in theses, the error frequency of subject-verb agreement, and the causes of errors of subject-verb agreement. Written language production is the major requirement of a thesis writing. However, sentence types necessarily become the starting points of determination to the correct subject-verb agreement. The research applied a descriptive method with qualitative approach. The data of this research were collected from the corpus of 6 theses submitted to English Language Study Program in Academic Year 2017/2018. The data were manually sorted out by separating subject-verb agreement errors from other types of error. The result showed that there are 6 major forms of subject-verb agreement which comprised 170 errors. Of 6 forms, “3rd singular subject†was the most frequent encountered in theses. In contrast, “double subject†was the least frequent error form. The errors were caused by “interlingual errors†and “intralingual errorsâ€. Keywords: Errors, Subject-verb Agreement, Theses

AbstractThis Classroom Action Research was aimed to improve students’ reading comprehension of biographical recount text through Survey, Question, Read, Recite, and Review (SQ3R) technique. The tenth grade students of SMKN 3 Pontianak were the subject of this research. The findings showed that the students’ problems in understanding biographical recount text especially in finding main idea and detail information were solved by using SQ3R as their reading technique. The students also responded to the implementation of SQ3R technique positively. They become active learners in generating questions, providing and presenting the answers and discussing their work together. Based on the findings, it is concluded that SQ3R technique can improve comprehension in reading biographical recount text by providing a structured stages for reading activities.  Key words: Reading Comprehension, Recount Text, SQ3R Technique

Data untuk penelitian ini diperoleh dari Kecamatan Paloh, Sajingan, Subah dan Teluk Keramat Kabupaten Sambas dan dari Kecamatan Entikong, Sekayam, Beduai dan Kembayan Kabupaten Sanggau. Teknik yang dipergunakan untuk pengambilan data adalah teknik survey. Alat pengumpul data terdiri atas format isian data untuk mengumpulkan data mengenai lulusan SD dan data mengenai lulusan SD yang melanjutkan ke SMP dan pedoman wawancara untuk menghimpun informasi yang bersifat kualitatif dari sumber data seperti Kepala Dinas dan Kepala Cabang Dinas Pendidikan. Data diolah dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif. Masalah yang dikemukakan dalam penelitian ini adalah gambaran aksesibilitas dan partisipasi masyarakat dalam Pendidikan Dasar 9 Tahun berdasarkan angka transisi dan faktor-faktor penghambat dalam pelaksanaan Program Wajib Belajar 9 Tahun di daerah perbatasan di Kabupaten Sambas dan Sanggau. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa (1) sebanyak 456 atau 18,38 % dari 2479 orang lulusan Sekolah Dasar dan/atau sederajat di 4 kecamatan daerah perbatasan di kabupaten Sambas pada tahun 2008/2009 tidak melanjutkan sekolah ke tingkat Sekolah Menengah Pertama dan/atau sederajat; (2) sebanyak 305 atau 17,93 % dari 1701 orang lulusan Sekolah Dasar dan/atau sederajat di 4 kecamatan daerah perbatasan di kabupaten Sanggau pada tahun 2008/2009 tidak melanjutkan sekolah ke tingkat Sekolah Menengah Pertama dan/atau sederajat; (3) faktor-faktor penghambat meliputi: sosial-budaya, ekonomi, geografi dan demografi.  AbstractThis research is aimed at improving students’ listening skill in Class Eleven Multimedia of Vocational High School Mandiri Pontianak in Academic Year 2017/2018. This research used English songs as technique in teaching listening. This research was done by giving students Fill in the Blank song lyrics. The method of this research was classroom action research, which consisted of 2 cycles. The subject of this research was students of Class Eleven Multimedia of SMK Mandiri Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. The research was conducted to solve the problem encountered by the students in listening. Most of the students were not able to listen well because they lacked of vocabulary. The technique of data collecting for this research was observation and test. The tools of data collecting were listening test, observation checklist, and field note. The result of this research showed that English songs improved students’ listening skill by Filling in the blank song lyrics. The students’ individual score in listening also improved in teaching learning process. From this result, it can be concluded that students’ listening taught by English songs had improved. In another word, this media can help students in listening.       Keywords: English Songs, Listening, Classroom Action Research.

AbstractThe result of the research showed that students could comprehend narrative text with good comprehension. The problem of the research  was  students got difficulty to find out the meaning of the words, got less information during learning process because they were not active in reading the narrative text and its generic structure. Reading narrative text helped the students in finding the information about the story. The teacher explained the generic structure of narrative text to studying. The student sharing the information in the second group helped them in comprehending a narrative text. This research found out that there was an improvement of students reading comprehension in narrative text  for each cycle by Implementing One Stray Technique in teaching reading comprehension and students’ score improvements was better.Keywords: Reading Comprehension, Narrative Text, One Stray Strategy.

AbstractThis research is about Improving Students’ Achievement in Writing Hortatory Exposition Text through Debate Technique. The purpose of this research is to improve the students’ achievement in writing hortatory exposition text through debate technique. The methodology of this research was a classroom action research which consisted of 2 cycles. The participants of this research were 39 students of class XI IPA 5 of SMA 3 Pontianak in the academic year of 2016/2017. In completing the research, the researcher used the observation checklist table, field note and writing assessment as the instruments of data collecting. By conducting the classroom action research, it was found out that debate technique improved the students’ achievement in writing hortatory exposition text. The result of this research has shown that the students’ progress is improved in each cycle. The mean score of the first cycle is 59.74 (poor to average). In the first cycle some students were not able to develop the ideas and make sentences into a good paragraph. The second cycle is 70 (average to good). In brief, the increasing score proved that debate technique improved the students’ achievement in writing hortatory exposition text.  Keywords: debate technique, writing, hortatory exposition text, classroom action researchÂ

AbstractThe research was set out in order to know how the implementing outdoor activities improve students’ ability in writing factual description to the year-10 students at class MIA 2 of SMAN 9 Pontianak in academic year 2017/2018. This research was conducted through Classroom Action Reseacrh (CAR) in three cycles. The subjects of this research were the tenth grade English teacher and 36 students of year-10 at class MIA 2. In collecting the data, the researcher used field note, observation checklist, and students’ writing test. The result showed that implementing outdoor activities improved students’ ability in writing factual description. Furthermore, Minds on of Five Sense Writing in outdoor activities improved students’ability of using noun phrase with adjectives, also the Action stage of Five Sense Writing in outdoor activities could improve students’ ability of using the simple present tense. Moreover, the students’ motivation was improved by implementing the the Action stage of Five Sense Writing in Outdoor Activities. The action of Five sense Writing improved the students’ enthusiasm as well as their activeness. Therefore, the writer positively recommends the teacher to implement outdoor activities as one of various techniques in teaching process, especially in teaching writing factual description.Key Words: Outdoor Activities, Factual Description, Writing.

Abstract:This thesis is entitled Improving Reading Comprehension Through ?Getting The Fact Technique? (A Classroom Action Research to Year-10 Students of SMAK AbdiWacana Pontianak in Academic Year 2015/2016). It is aimed to find out the the answer of research questions, those are: (1) How can Getting the Fact Technique (GFT) improve reading comprehension to Year-10 students of SMAK AbdiWacana Pontianak in Academic Year 2015/2016? (2) What problems are encountered by Year-10 students of SMAK AbdiWacana Pontianak in Academic Year 2015/2016 when they are taught using Getting the Fact Technique (GFT)? The type of research applied to this research was Classroom Action Research (CAR) that was implemented in two cycles, The average score of students? test was 78.52 with the qualification of ?average to good? in cycle one and 87.48 with the qualification of ?good to excellent? in cycle two. It means that the average score of the tests on the material taught using FGT technique was higher than the minimum achievement criterion for English subject accomplishment for year-10 of SMAK Abdi Wacana Pontianak, that is 65. Abstract This research is aimed to find out that the use of flashcard improves students? ability to write verb-form in recount text of VIII grade B students of SMP Negeri 05 Pontianak in Academic Year 2018/2019. This research was conducted based on the problems found in the classroom. The problems are the students wrote incorrect and did not know the meaning of verb-form in simple past tense. The method of this research is Classroom Action Research which consisted of four stages such as Planning, Acting, Observing, and Reflecting. This research was conducted in two cycles to 29 students. In collecting the data, the researcher used observation and measurement technique. The tools of collecting data were observation checklist, field notes and test. Based on the findings in this research, it was found that using flashcard in teaching and learning in the classroom helped the teacher in manages class easily and they are could made students? interest to the lesson. It is also can change students? behavior in the classroom. Many of them seem motive and enthusiast when doing the test and discussion. They are not busy with their own business.
