Abstract

This study aims to describe students' errors in solving problems in the material of Sequences and Series based on Hadar's criteria in terms of students' mathematical understanding. The type of research used is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. There are 6 research subjects, namely 2 students with high mathematical understanding, 2 students with moderate mathematical understanding, and 2 students with low mathematical understanding. The instrument used in data collection was an understanding test containing 7 questions, a series and series problem test containing 3 questions, as well as interview guidelines. The results showed that all subjects who worked on questions related to determining the P-th term in the series geometry and in working on problems related to determining the cattle population tend to make technical errors. Meanwhile, in working on problems related to determining the number of terms in an arithmetic sequence, the subject did not experience any errors in completing the answer except for the fifth subject and the sixth subject who did not answer at all.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the application of the Vaccine Making Competition game in developing the spatial abilities of class VIII students at SMP Negeri 4 Majauleng. The research type applied was pre-experimental, involving 17 students as research samples. The data analysis technique used is descriptive statistics, which is equipped with normalized gain value calculations. The research results show that the application of the Vaccine Making Competition game provides positive changes to students' spatial abilities. Descriptively, the initial quantitative achievements show an increase in spatial abilities (normalized gain) after being taught using the Vaccine Making Competition game in the medium category). Apart from that, students' responses to the Vaccine Making Competition game were very positive. The application of learning media to support student learning outcomes, such as spatial abilities, is an effort to increase their participation in planned activities. Through activities, a learning experience with media helps students construct the knowledge gained and each activity presented.

Abstract

This research aims to implement Toraja cultural-based mathematics teaching tools to enhance the learning outcomes of students at SMPN 1 Makale Selatan. The objectives include assessing students' learning outcomes, their activities, and the teacher's capability in applying Toraja cultural-based mathematics teaching tools. The research method employed is quantitative research. Based on the findings, students' learning outcomes through problem-based learning (PBL) models infused with Toraja cultural elements are categorized as very high, with an average score of 86.17. This success is attributed to the cultural relevance and emotional connection fostered by the PBL approach integrated with Toraja traditions. The inclusive learning environment created through the recognition of cultural diversity further contributes to positive outcomes, confirming the effectiveness of the Toraja culture-based PBL model in promoting active student involvement in the learning experience. The integration of Toraja cultural elements into the PBL model significantly contributes to the remarkable success in achieving a high average score of 86.17 in students' learning outcomes. This achievement is found due to the contextual relevance of Toraja cultural values, increased emotional engagement, and the development of critical thinking skills within a broader cultural context. The use of Toraja culture not only enhances memory retention but also empowers students to actively participate in a learning environment that celebrates cultural diversity. The exceptional learning outcomes affirm the efficacy of integrating PBL with Toraja cultural elements, providing students with a profound and meaningful educational experience.

Abstract

The objective of this study is to characterize the mathematical problem-solving capabilities of 10th grade students at SMA Negeri 1 Batuputih, based on their Adversity Quotient (AQ). This research used a qualitative approach. The subjects in this study consisted of six students of class X SMA Negeri 1 Batuputih who were determined based on AQ criteria with purposive sampling technique. The instruments used were an Adversity Quotient (AQ) questionnaire, a description test, and interview guidelines that had been properly validated by experts. The data collected were analyzed with the stages of data condensation, data presentation, and conclusion drawing and verification. The results showed that: (1) Subjects with climber-type AQ can solve the three stages of problem solving by Polya quite well, namely: the stages of understanding the problem, developing a plan, implementing the plan, however, they have not been able to check the correctness of the results completely; (2) Subjects with camper-type AQ have not been able to understand the problem completely, thus, having difficulty in developing a complete plan; and (3) Subjects with quitter-type AQ cannot understand the problem, and do not have a picture of solving the problem.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the ability of students in solving social arithmetic story problems. The type of research used is qualitative research with a descriptive approach. There are six research subjects, namely, two high-ability students, two moderately capable students, and two low-ability students. The data collection technique in this research is by doing a social arithmetic test. The instruments used in data collection were written tests and interviews. The results showed that subjects with high mathematical ability (SKT), were able to write known and asked correctly, were able to write formulas, and students were able to solve verbal problems. Subjects with moderate mathematical ability (SKS), are able to determine what is known and asked, but are less able to write formulas, and are unable to solve verbal problems. Subjects with low mathematical ability (SKR), unable to write well known and asked, unable to write formulas, and unable to solve verbal problems. The results of this study are expected to add insight and improve students' abilities in solving math story problems related to the application of everyday life.
