Abstract

The Meratus Dayak people still believe that traditional medicine using medicinal plants can cure diseases and still often use it as needed. This traditional medicine has become extinct because the system of inheritance of knowledge is only through oral without any written records from generation to generation. This has led to a decrease in the number of individuals who have knowledge and skills in traditional medicine, especially in the younger generation who are less interested in learning traditional medicine. The purpose of this study was to analyze the knowledge of Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 4 Balangan students on medicinal plants, their use as daily or traditional customs and efforts to preserve traditional medicines in Halong Subdistrict, Balangan District. Students from class X IPA and X IPS at Madrasah Aliyah Negeri 4 Balangan have low knowledge about medicinal plants caused by several factors, including curriculum, teaching methods that are less interactive, the influence of parents who have limited knowledge, and modernization make modern medicines easier to obtain. Students have basic knowledge of medicinal plants, but limited to a few common types, there is a desire to expand their knowledge. The application of medicinal plants in everyday life is still low due to lack of practical knowledge and limited access.

Abstract

Tabalong River is used as the raw water source for PDAM Tabalong. The large number of industrial activities in the district produces residual products that eventually pollute the watershed, resulting in a decrease in water quality and availability. Parameters that do not meet the standard quality standards as clean water based on Government Regulation No. 22 of 2021 class I are turbidity, color, TSS, dissolved Fe, dissolved Mn, and E. coli. This river water requires treatment with coagulation - flocculation technology with the jar test method. The technology requires a coagulant whose role is to precipitate colloidal particles. The commonly used coagulant is poly aluminum chloride (PAC). It is abundant but produces high concentrations of sludge, so coagulants that are biodegradable, biocompatible, non-toxic, and abundant are needed. These properties are found in biocoagulants in the form of chitosan. The coagulant in this study is synthetic (PAC) and bicoagulant (chitosan) by determining the optimum dose in river water treatment in the rainy season. The optimum dose is used to combine the ratio between coagulants. The ratio is (100:0, 25:75, 50:50, 75:25, and 0:100) which is analyzed for its effectiveness from each parameter. The optimum dose of PAC is 10 ppm and chitosan is 20 ppm. The best effectiveness is the PAC-chitosan combination in the form of a ratio of 0:100, which is in the form of chitosan which is able to reduce the levels of these parameters to meet the quality standards.

Abstract

The impact of the mining process including the emergence of Total Suspended Solids (TSS), either directly or indirectly can disrupt the life of aquatic biota, damage environmental sustainability, and threaten the welfare of humans who depend on the water for various daily purposes. To reduce the burden of pollution on water bodies due to coal mining waste, one of the technologies often chosen is the Wastewater Management Plant (WWTP) system, which generally involves the use of settling ponds. This study aims to analyze the total suspended solids in the settling pond, analyze the total suspended solid capacity, and compile recommendations for total suspended solid management efforts to meet environmental quality standards. The total suspended solids (TSS) values in October and November measurements at the inlet were 339.00 mg/l and 712.00 mg/l while the outlet decreased to 42.50 mg/l and 55.00 mg/l. The total suspended solid (TSS) value during the measurement period of January – December 2023 shows that the TSS value at the inlet and outlet for 12 months shows a value below the quality standard. The first settling pond with a capacity of 15,000 m, and the second to sixth settling ponds have a capacity of 3,000 m3  each. To maintain the capacity of the settling pond at around 60% of its maximum capacity, the volume of TSS deposited ranges from 9,000 m3, while in the second to sixth settling ponds, the volume of TSS deposited each ranges from 1,800 m3.

Abstract

Community Service with the Community Partnership Program (PKM) scheme was carried out for the "Panle Brothers" Fish Cultivator Group (Pokdakan), Danda Jaya Village, Rantau Badauh District, Barito Kuala Regency. Pokdakan cultivates catfish and catfish, with a cultivated fish pond area of only 0.2 ha, and the size of the fish pond plots varying from 25 – 100 m2. Productivity is low, because Pokdakan is still very dependent on commercial feed which is very expensive with a small profit margin. Businesses for making independent feed have begun to be carried out using local ingredients, but the use of animal ingredients still relies on fish meal. The solution to overcome this problem is to carry out the dissemination of maggot cultivation technology from Black Soldier Fly (BSF) flies. This is the right and strategic step to substitute fish meal, because the protein contained in maggots is equivalent to or even more than fish meal. Research results state that maggots contain between 40-60% protein so that using maggots in feed formulations, even if given directly fresh to carnivorous fish such as catfish and catfish, can save production costs of up to 40%. Dissemination of this technology is delivered using theoretical explanations, demonstrations, training and intensive assistance during activities. The results obtained showed that the group of cultivators were very enthusiastic in accepting the technology presented, there was an increase in knowledge of 328.57% and an increase in skills of 541.67% regarding maggot cultivation. The supporting factor for this activity is that the Pokdakan group shows great interest and motivation in this technology. The inhibiting factor is that very hot weather causes maggot growth to be less than optimal.
