Abstract

Abstract

Curahpoh Village, Curahdami District, Bondowoso Regency is able to produce quality coffee and can be used as a coffee center village. The economy of the people there depends on the harvest from coffee plantations. Coaching started from 2019 until now and continues to be carried out. The coffee farmers we train are coffee farmers who are members of LMDH Argo Santoso, Curahpoh Village, Curahdami District, Bondowoso. In 2019, we donated 300 seeds of clones BP 936, BP 939 and BP 409. In 2020, we donated 500 seeds of clones BP 358, BP42 and BP 409. The seeds we donated were superior seeds resulting from grafting technology with BP rootstock. 308. BP 308 is a special coffee plant for rootstock because of its dense and strong roots. The current condition of the coffee plants is that they are grown and cared for well. The service team together with students calculated the production potential of coffee berries. The main parameters in calculating production potential are the effective number of branches, number of dompolans, number of perdompolan fruit and weight per coffee fruit. The calculation results of the potential production of coffee grown from the grant are 2.1 tons/ha. The production potential reaches 6 times the potential of coffee owned by farmers in Curahpoh, which is around only 0.4 tons/ha.

Abstract

Increasing environmental awareness needs to be done to maintain good air quality. This can be done through reforestation. Plant cultivation can use planting media other than soil by using hydrogel as an alternative media which can add aesthetic value and economic value. A sense of environmental concern can be developed from an early age. The children at the "Untukmu Si Kecil" Foundation do not yet know about alternative hydrogel planting media. This service aims to introduce alternative hydrogel planting media to children as an addition to aesthetic value. This service was carried out in at “Untukmu Si Kecil” foundation, Sumbersari, Sumbersari, Jember with 16 participants. The methods used are lectures, direct practice and discussion. The service results showed that participants gained more in-depth knowledge about hydrogel planting media. Participants were very enthusiastic during the provision of materials and cultivation practices with hydrogel which could implement children's creativity in using colorful hydrogel. Apart from that, these results can beautify the room and table.

Abstract

Coffee is one of the leading plantation commodities that are in demand by the public. Robusta coffee var. Milo Pace is Jember's flagship local coffee that was only released at the end of 2023. Seedling propagation continues to be pursued to preserve the coffee. In vitro culture is one of the effective plant propagation methods for production in large quantities. However, explant sterilization is a crucial stage in in vitro culture. Reports related to in vitro culture of robusta milo pace have never been reported before. Therefore, optimization of sterilization methods is the initial stage in supporting the success of in vitro culture of robusta milo pace coffee. The purpose of this study was to obtain the optimal method of sterilization of leaf explants of robusta milo pace coffee. This study used a one-factor randomized design, namely the method of sterilization of coffee leaf explants consisting of 12 methods. The sterilants used were detergent, bactericide, fungicide, NaOCl, H2O2, alcohol and distilled water with different time and concentration. The results showed that sterilization of explants by method XII with 2 g/L detergent for 20 minutes, 2 g/L bactericide and 2 g/L fungicide for 60 minutes, 1.05% NaOCl for 15 minutes, 0.525% NaOCl 10 minutes and 1.5% H2O2 can suppress 20% contamination such as fungi and bacteria with an average contaminant appearance time of 11 days after inoculation. The percentage of browning was 20% with an average appearance of 8.8 days after inoculation. This method maintains the percentage of live explants up to 60% characterized by fresh green explants.

Abstract

Coffee is one of the important plantation commodities that plays a significant role in the Indonesian economy. Gold Robusta coffee is a potential genotype currently being developed in Jember, particularly by the University of Jember, as an alternative to the common practice of using seedling cuttings with unidentified genetic origins. This study aimed to determine the optimal nitrogen (urea) dosage containing 46% N and its growth response on immature (TBM) Gold Robusta coffee plants. The research was conducted at the Experimental Field in Darsono Village, Arjasa District, Jember Regency, from May to December 2024. The experimental design used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with a single factor, consisting of three levels of urea fertilizer doses, namely 15 g, 30 g, and 45 g/plant, each replicated nine times. Observed variables included plant height, number of leaves, stem diameter, number and length of productive branches, leaf area, and chlorophyll content. Data were analyzed using ANOVA, and significant differences were further tested with Duncan’s Multiple Range Test (DMRT) at a 5% significance level. The results showed that urea application significantly affected the growth of immature Gold Robusta coffee. A dose of 45 g/plant produced the best growth performance with an average plant height of 112.78 cm, 21.44 leaves, leaf area of 163.56 cm², and productive branch length of 47 cm. Therefore, urea application at 45 g/plant can be recommended as a fertilizer guideline during the immature phase of Gold Robusta coffee.
