Abstract

AbstractKappa carrageenan is polysaccharide that widely used in food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic, textile and printing industries as coagulate agent, stabilizer and gelling agent. Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) is strong oxidator to degrade polysaccharide. Hydrogen peroxide has some advantades such as cheap, easy to get and savety environment. Degradation method using hydrogen peroxide is a technology based on establishment radical hydoxile reactive that attack the glycosidic of polysaccharides as a result reducing in molecular weight of polysaccharide. The aims of this study were to analyze the effect of hydrogen peroxide concentration, temperature and degradation time to molecular weight of refined kappa carrageenan. Structural changes on kappa carrageenan degradation were characterized by viscometer, SEM and FTIR. Hydrogen peroxide concentration, temperature and degradation time were significantly reducing molecular weight and changes in the structural function of refined kappa carrageenan. The lowest molecular weight of refined kappa carrageenan degraded was obtained from the treatment 3% of hydrogen peroxide at temperature 80°C and degradation time for 4 hours.

Abstract

Traditional fishermen in Dusun XI, Percut Village, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province, using rawai fishing gear, nets, and hand line instead of other technological gear. Sea tides also influence fisherman's ability to get out of sea; when the river mouth reaches high tides, fishermen will go to sea; when the river mouth recedes, fishermen can not go to sea. Fishermen are frequently returned to sea with little results, especially in the absence of technological application. Education is important, and advances in fish finder technology can help fishermen catch more fish by making it easier to use. The implementation method is theoretical and practical, with the formation of an actually trying to implement committee team occurrence through educational methods with theoretical media attention, as well as practical activities such as fisherman group discussions and joint operation demonstration activities in the field. Abstract

Percut Village is one of the villages located on the East Coast of North Sumatra which is directly opposite the waters of the Malacca Strait so that the main livelihood of the villagers is as fishermen. During pandemic, the government has implemented a Large Scale Social Restriction policy which has an impact on the social status of the community, such as limited fishing activities which have resulted in a decrease in the selling price of caught fish. In addition, the silting of sedimentation in 2020 resulted in the tides and coastline becoming unclear so that fishermen could not go to sea optimally. Based on these considerations, knowledge dissemination and training on techniques for creating aquascapes have been carried out for groups of young fishermen in July – September 2021 in Percut Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra Province, North Sumatra Province. The results of this activity have a positive impact on the community to increase creativity and enrich soft skills by applying the knowledge gained to start becoming an entrepreneur as an alternative livelihood for fishermen youth groups so that they are able to compete in the midst of society and can create jobs.
