Hey Airtable Community!

I'm @Zach from the Product Ops team at Airtable. Welcome to our (NEW!) quarterly Product Playback: a snapshot of what we're hearing from you and how we're responding.

Thank you for sharing your ideas. In the past few months, you've submitted over 150+ ideas through our Product Ideas form. We know you've invested significant time providing this feedback, and we want to show you where it's landing. This post reflects the themes we're seeing most often and provides insight into what we're working on.

About this post: We'll cover the most requested features, what we've shipped, what's in progress, and what we're considering. Our roadmap evolves based on customer needs, technical factors, and market dynamics, so plans may shift. But we want to keep you informed about our current direction.

Ready? Let's dive into what you've been asking for and what we're building.

First, a quick note re: the recent UI updates supporting our platform evolution.

We've rolled out updates to Airtable's UI as we continue to expand our platform's capabilities. For longtime users, we recognize these changes, particularly in the data layer, represent a meaningful shift from what you're used to.

These updates are part of Airtable's evolution as we refine the user experience and add powerful new features. While the new UI structure is the foundation moving forward, we're continuously improving based on your feedback. We recently updated the view sidebar hover functionality to help with navigation, and we're actively listening to understand how these changes impact your specific workflows.

For builders spending time in the data layer, the visual changes are most noticeable. The good news: your end users' interface experiences remain unchanged. We appreciate all of the detailed feedback you’ve shared as it helps us deliver the best experience possible – and please continue using our Product Ideas submission process for sharing ideas, thoughts, and feedback.

Key Topics

1. AI-Native Airtable

You asked for: Make building with Airtable faster and easier across the entire app creation journey.

Major initiative: We've integrated AI throughout Airtable to help you build faster. Omni is your building assistant—describe the app you need, and it generates working solutions using Airtable components. You can use Omni to add fields, tables, automations, interfaces and more – add components individually or generate the entire app. Omni also helps with data analysis and can switch seamlessly between building, editing, and analyzing.

Field Agents unlock an army of agents ready to work in your apps. Set them up to process forms, extract insights from documents, conduct web research, or even generate images. This means you can deliver more sophisticated solutions to your users without writing code. All plans include AI capabilities.

If you’ve been using AI within Airtable over the last year, you’ll notice that Omni is the next evolution of Cobuilder and Assistant combined into a unified experience, plus new capabilities like adding and editing records in bulk. Similarly, Field Agents is the next evolution of AI Fields, packed with more context and tools that allow agents to take more complex actions.

2. Enhanced Linked Records

You asked for: Better parent-child relationships and self-referential record management.

What's new: Same-table backlinks have launched (thanks for the shoutout @Mike_AutomaticN)! This addresses one of your most requested features - thank you @kuovonne, @ScottWorld, and the other Builders who’ve shared this feedback. We're continuing to enhance how linked records work, with improvements to relationship visualization and management coming soon.

3. Custom Visualizations

You asked for: More color options and visual flexibility for data organization. Enhanced timeline views with flexible date ranges and better visualization options.

Our approach: We've shipped enhanced Gantt timeline features for interfaces, color formatting for number fields and a dark mode beta. We're balancing requests for more built-in color options with maintaining visual consistency and accessibility. PS - more visual customization options are coming soon. Watch a demo with an example of what will be possible to create with custom interfaces for a sneak peak of what’s to come.

4. Form Upgrades

You asked for: Smarter, more flexible, and more powerful forms.

Update: We've shipped visual upgrades, title customization, and validation features. With Omni, you can now create forms just by asking.

5. Enterprise Scale & Governance

You asked for: Support for larger datasets and enterprise-grade controls.

Updates:

  • HyperDB is now generally available, supporting hundreds of millions of records
  • Sandbox environment for safe production changes
  • Enhanced admin roles and custom terms of use
  • Working toward even greater row support with new architecture improvements

6. Mobile Experience

You asked for: Full-featured mobile companion apps.

Current focus: We're shipping 5+ new mobile Interface features across iOS and Android, including Kanban views, improved navigation, and performance enhancements.

7. Platform Integrations

Your need: Deeper connections with your existing tools.

Coming soon: We're upgrading our integrations platform to accelerate new connectors. Email-triggered automations and enhanced sync capabilities are already live.

8. Performance & Reliability

Behind the scenes: While not always visible, we're investing heavily in platform performance:

  • Significant improvements to permissions performance
  • Ongoing work to support mission-critical operations at scale

Thanks so much, @Zach😃

So many fantastic improvements!! 🤗🙌

One problem that has cropped up for my customers over the last few weeks is that whenever creators switch from the “data layer” to the “interface layer”, they are taken into “Edit” mode instead of simply being taken into the interface itself.

99.99% of the time, they don’t want to go into “Edit” mode because they have completely finished building their interfaces months or years ago.

At this point, they just want to USE their interfaces — even if they’re a creator.

Thank you!
Scott

Interesting new feature, always appreciate a round-up and a taste of what’s to come.

Same table backlinks and dark mode were huge additions that are very much appreciated. I hope form upgrades and platform integrations/native automations are still active spots being built upon, because those are two major spots where Airtable could really grow. Would love to do more with Airtable rather than have to implement 3rd party tools like Fillout and Make respectively.

I should submit this as a request, but bring back the Airtable Universe or something like it! So many of us build cool implementations, but the frozen in amber nature of AT Universe means it’s difficult to share them as templates. Heck y’all are highlighting builds like here but you can’t actually see them in action and incorporate elements yourself.

Oh and finally don’t forget about us on the Teams tier!

@DisraeliGears01 We had a lot of great builds from the MVP contest and are actively working on putting together write ups so the community can see what our MVPs made and how they did it.

In the meantime, Show and Tell is still a great place for members to share the cool things they’ve been doing with Airtable and with as much detail as possible!

@ScottWorld Thank you for the feedback! We’ve received your messages about this topic and rest assured that the team is actively reviewing all customer feedback that we’re getting around this.

If more comes to mind, truly the best place to help us is to share your ideas and feedback through the Product Ideas Form 🧠

Thanks for sharing @Zach

Just a note that the Self managed Back-link fields don’t play too well when implemented upstream in a table that sync’s to downstream bases - especially when changing the “primary” field during the sync operation.

The result is records in the downstream sync have a chance of linking with an incorrect yet identically named different record as to what’s linked upstream.

But otherwise the feature has so far been great and very much appreciated.

Hi,

I’ve noticed in one of your videos (and others you’ve uploaded) that you seem to have Interfaces connected with Airtable extensions, such as Map and 3D Viewer.

From what I understand, this functionality isn’t available to regular users yet — or am I missing something? It looks like a huge upgrade to the way Interfaces work and could open up many possibilities for using extensions directly inside them.

Is this feature already available, or is it something planned for the roadmap? If it is available, could you share how to enable it?

Thanks in advance!

@Tristan-ARG

They've been teasing custom extensions in Interfaces for what feels like 6 months or so. There is a test beta that I think is invite only, and they’re supposed to be rolling them out sometime, but currently they aren’t publicly available (and god only know what plan tier they’ll be linked to).

@Tristan-ARG Good eye! Those were built with an early version of custom interface extensions (#3 on this list), and we'll have more information on how to access that soon. Excited to share with this community once it’s available!

Ok, that will be a huge game changer. I assume that as you are showcasing them in each video it should be roll out quite soon. Looking forward for it!
