The number of mobile phone connections is based on the number of SIM cards in circulation (contract, prepaid and M2M).
The decrease of connections in some networks is partly due to the providers booking out inactive SIM cards from time to time and revising the figures accordingly.

Citation formats

Vodafone was the largest provider, with around 86.3 million mobile connections in the second quarter of 2025. This is a noticeable increase compared to the year before. The figures refer to the number of SIM cards in circulation and include cell phone contracts, as well as prepaid connections and SIM cards that are used for automatic communication between machines (M2M).
