Most popular payment methods for online purchases in France 2021

 In a survey from 2021, almost ** percent of French respondents stated preferring to pay via credit or debit card when shopping online, while paying cash at delivery was rather unpopular, with only *** percent of responding online shoppers declared having chosen this payment method.

E-commerce and online payments

   Purchasing products or services online has become widespread across society:** percent of French stated having carried out online purchases over the past 12 months in 2019. According to another survey conducted in 2018, around ** percent of respondents throughout various age groups declared rather paying with credit card for their non-food online purchases, while payment through social media was still minimally used. Furthermore, ** percent of French surveyed declared they would probably use an opportunity to pay an online purchase at a nearby store.  

The data security issue

   Despite the increasing habit of online shopping mentioned above, paying online also seems to raise security issues among Internet users: the worry of lacking security checks for payment was the most mentioned feature which could prevent from purchasing online in 2018. To address this issue, security systems appear to be increasingly implemented for Internet transactions: in April 2019, 43 percent of online payments were secured by the 3D-Secure protocol.
