Spain: best-selling car models 2024

During 2024, the passenger car model with the most new registrations in Spain was the Dacia Sandero, with nearly 33,000 units sold. Seat, the Spanish brand headquartered in Catalonia, produced the third best-selling model that year, with around 22,000 sales. 

The slump of diesel engines

According to the latest studies, Europe has been experiencing a shift in consumer behavior when purchasing a car. Sales of diesel models have been recording a downtrend since 2013 in all European countries. In contrast, electric vehicle sales have been growing in Europe between 2015 and 2025. In 2024, plug-in hybrid vehicles and battery electric vehicles represented some 11 percent of the Spanish new passenger car market.

Germany car models less popular in Spain

In 2024, only one Volkswagen models made it into this ranking: the T-Roc. The German car manufacturer VW Group held the largest market share of passenger cars in Europe in 2024, taking up 26.3 percent of the total market. German car brands also appeared on a list of most expensive passenger cars, perhaps explaining why they did not top Spain's sales ranking.
