Wind energy penetration share in the U.S. in 2024, by state

Wind penetration in the United States stood at roughly 10 percent in 2024, that is, wind accounted for 10 percent of the electricity generated across the country that year. Iowa was by far the state with the highest wind penetration, with almost 63 percent of its electricity production covered by wind. South Dakota and Kansas followed with approximately 59.1 and 51.7 percent, respectively.
