Portugal mostly relies on wind, hydropower, and natural gas for its electricity generation. While wind energy and hydropower production typically increases in the winter months, fossil fuels contribute a larger share of Portugal's electricity generation from March to September. In April 2025, hydropower was by far the leading source of electricity production, with almost *** terawatt-hours.
