The number of artificial intelligence (AI) startups reaching a valuation of *********** U.S. dollars or more, also known as unicorns, has increased significantly since 2020. Growth accelerated notably starting in 2024 and continued through 2025. Between ******* and *******, more than ** new AI unicorns were created each quarter, with some quarters in 2025 reaching as many as ** new AI unicorns. As of the fourth quarter of 2025, there were *** AI unicorns worldwide. The United States accounted for the largest share of both total and newly created AI unicorns.
