Peru: trade value 2015-2023, by trade flow type

In 2023, the total value of Peru's trade goods amounted to approximately 116.52 billion U.S. dollars, out of which the country exported 64.36 billion dollars' worth of goods. In that same year, this South American country imported goods worth approximately 52.16 billion U.S. dollars. Between 2015 and 2019, Peru's export trade value increased by 37 percent. However, when comparing the values of 2020 with those of the previous year, the exports decreased by about 16 percent. It was only in 2021 that Peru's trade value experienced a considerable increase in both imports and exports. The upward trend held in 2022.

Import and export trade 

International trade refers to the exchange of capital, goods, and services across international borders or territories. The term "imports" refers to the form of trade in which goods that are grown, produced, or manufactured in other countries are bought into a specific country. On the other hand, the term "export" implies a trade in which goods that are grown, produced, or manufactured in a country are sold internationally.

Peru's leading trade partners 

Before 2020, the leading trading partners of Peru were China and the United States. In 2019, Peru imported goods worth more than 10 billion U.S. dollars from China, while the exports were valued at almost three billion dollars more than the imports. Meanwhile, this South American country exported nearly six billion U.S. dollars to the United States. That same year, the most exported products from Peru were ores, slag, and ash, followed by pearls, precious or semi-precious stones.
