Unable to add content in new section in an article

Hi,
At mr wikipedia in article W:mr:कोल्हापुरी बोली I created a new section W:mr:कोल्हापुरी बोली#वैशिष्ट्ये But I am unable to add content in that section. I created this new article added a content line then added two templates one by one saved the page then again opened for VE edit added a section and saved again opened for adding content but I am unable to add content. I tried on Firefox and Google crome (with win10) but faced the same problem.
This is the first new article I took for creation with VE. As of now I have not received any other mr wikipedian complaint in this regard, and also I have not reproduced it on other pages so I have not lodged any bug.
Whether this a already known issue or a new one please let me know.
Thanks and regards. Mahitgar (talk) 13:46, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
- Oh Ok may be because I did not click enter key after section heading. Once I clicked enter then I am able to edit the section. But frankly I am not pleased enough with this. The same defficulty may arise with other new users and like me they also wont necessarily aware that one has to force enter to edit the section.
- Are we already working to improve this ? Mahitgar (talk) 13:53, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
- This is not an issue for others, as far as I know. How else should the system work, according to you, if not by clicking Enter? How else do you want to tell the editor, "I am done writing the heading, take me to the paragraph now"? Elitre (WMF) (talk) 14:02, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
- See in this particular case,- I saved the article after adding the section- this article is about a dialect, where in I realised that an aquaitance of mine is sort of expert on the subject so I created only the section heading and saved the article and called up my aquaitance who is not familiar with wikipedia editing and I told him to add info. If it did not work with me I know alternatives to get the things done. If the same sequence happen with people who are not well versed with wikipedia and if they have to turn for help then the software has not reached to the expected intuitive level.
- Some thing is a issue or not one has to test new users in wikipedia academy with blind test i.e. just go and use it then you find the defficulties they are facing then one realises whether that is issue or not. May be VE team has already done that and is not an issue and may be thing is over looked may be.
- How else do you want to tell the editor, "I am done writing the heading, take me to the paragraph now"?
- 1) I Suppose if not on single click in the next line (i.e.next line after section heading) atleast on double click. That is my personal expectation as a user without knowing your technical defficulties. May be there are some technical or other defficulties.
- 2) But in any case section should get enabled for editing once document is saved. Document saving is usually supposed to be clear indicator. I do not know if any user behaviour study has been taken on this issue already.
- What I would request minimum is add this issue for user behaviour study.
- As of now any way we are running VE related site notice I can add this also in site notice to keep people informed but that certainly wont add up to intuitiveness of the software in itself.
- Rgds Mahitgar (talk) 14:57, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
- What do you mean by "Unable to add content in new section"? Does this mean that you click on the section edit link and the editor doesn't load? Does it mean that you open the section, you start typing but the words don't appear? Something else entirely? (I tested in Safari and I am able to type anywhere in that article. When reporting issues, remember that the browser versions matter :) , and if you are not using Vector as a Wikipedia skin you want to tell us about that too).
- Thanks! Elitre (WMF) (talk) 13:54, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
- I tested on firefox, google crome, and explorer whatever the automatic latest versions with windows 10. Now I realise that we at mr wikipedia do have a huge number of articles where section headings are present and there is no content under those headings. When we will have VE as default first editor and fo novice if, it does not strike to them that they have to press enter after section heading and if some of them make the same user behaviour as of mine to add the content directly and they wont be able to do that then ?
- I realy dont know what has happened at those language wikipedias which allow empty sections in the article. (VE team probably did not realise this problem because wikipedias following english wikipedia steps dont allow empty section headings.) Where as our wikipedia is much more flexible on this issue because we want to be new user friendly, But VE seems to bring in some new surprise to our wikipedia.
- Rgds & Thanks anyway Mahitgar (talk) 16:08, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks for your feedback again, I understand your report better now. I'll take a look and then will let you know something. Elitre (WMF) (talk) 18:12, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
- I filed https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T128622. I'm not entirely sure if there's a bug there, but I think that used to work differently in the past? We'll see. We appreciate everyone's input. It is almost impossible to know how things work in each of the almost 900 wikis WMF has under its umbrella. Therefore, information provided by users is crucial, and we are lucky to have people like you reporting here. Talk to you soon. Elitre (WMF) (talk) 18:51, 2 March 2016 (UTC)
- Ok I reprodueced it on another page (at mr wp we do have a sandbox page in main name space) W:mr:धूळपाटी#वैशिष्ट्ये also I created at your test page in your namespace W:mr:Elitre (WMF)/test When I click edit at the section heading editor gets loaded but when I click in next line to write cursor does not apear. (Now in this case I have added section heading and saved the page but not clicked enter after section heading. Mahitgar (talk) 15:21, 2 March 2016 (UTC)

Requesting icon file

Hi,
I am <u>looking for the picure file of icon button on VE menubar</u> which -is next to 'insert' options- takes one to the <u>'special charecter'</u>.
Some how I could not locate the file on wikimedia commons. I want to use the same at mr VE help tips about the same \.
Thanks and regards Mahitgar (talk) 05:52, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- I would have to ask. In any case, are you looking for the mr:ओमेगा button? Why not using a screenshot? Elitre (WMF) (talk) 15:12, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- Thanks that what I was looking for. We will update screen shot to in due course.

When editing a link within a table the save button is not enabled
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Browser: Firefox and Chrome
OS: Windows 7
Wiki Skin: Vector
I had an existing table with links created within it. I clicked edit and then changed where one of the links was pointed to. The save button did not become enabled. If I added text to a cell or clicked in the white space outside of the table on the page the button would become enabled. 4.34.25.186 (talk) 13:32, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
- I can't reproduce in the table at VisualEditor#History (there's a link at the bottom of the table). Can you? Elitre (WMF) (talk) 15:05, 8 March 2016 (UTC)
Hiding VE ux-components and customize the menubar
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Is it possible to hide certain VE ux-components? For example, we don't like/need the license-comment in the Save-dialog (= class "ve-ui-mwSaveDialog-license"). Can we hide it? Maybe by using CSS?
And is it possible to customize the menubar of VE? For example hide menu items or add a pulldown menu?
Or is this the wrong board to ask this kind of questions? Waanders (talk) 14:26, 8 March 2016 (UTC)

Greek alphabet lacks many characters
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
Hi. Visual editor include a poor version of Greek alphabet, able to write only modern Greek (monotonic alphabet), but not classical Greek, because it lacks polytonic characters. Can anyone add the lacking characters? They can be seen here. Pompilos (talk) 23:03, 10 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hi there, thanks for the message. If those are used often at your wiki, you may want to see VisualEditor/Special characters. Elitre (WMF) (talk) 10:37, 11 March 2016 (UTC)
- They are not often used at es.wikipedia.org, only occasionally. So, I would like polytonic characters appear in the popup windows by default, but not at the first place. Thank you. Pompilos (talk) 14:56, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
- Hi. When moved, a link to the requested Greek characters has been lost. Lacking characters are the [[:en:Greek_Extended|Greek Extended]] block of Unicode. Pompilos (talk) 20:39, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
- No link was lost. Your request has been understood. Please keep watching that task for updates. Elitre (WMF) (talk) 11:03, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
"Solving conflicts" erases any changes
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I'm at an edithaton with several unexperienced editors. We encouraged them to use the VisualEditor. However, there have been edit conflicts with editors outside the venue.
When the editor tries to save the conflicting edit, the VisualEditor offers two buttons to "continue editing" or "solve conflict". The first button returns to the editing window. The second button, despite its name. opens the code editor, erasing any text changes made at the VisualEditor.
As as result, several editors have lost their lengthy texts. It's hard to express our feelings reasonably. So please just patch the VisualEditor immediately to remove that deceiving "solve conflict" button. NaBUru38 (talk) 19:38, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
- An "overwrite with new changes" would be nice too. NaBUru38 (talk) 19:49, 12 March 2016 (UTC)
- The "solve conflict" button opens exactly the same editing system used to resolve edit conflicts in the wikitext ("code") editor. Their changes haven't been erased, but they are "below the scroll", in the lower box. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:Edit_conflict for more information. Citation Insertion not working
[edit]The following discussion is closed. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made on the appropriate discussion page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.
I have used VE to improve references a number of times today
Example:
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Charles_Warren_(U.S._author)&diff=prev&oldid=711760769
but it is no longer working.
If I click on the Cite button, I can “Generate” a citation, but the “Insert” button does nothing.
