Sean Bean and Andrew Garfield's crime period drama Red Riding has found a new streaming home in the UK.

The 2009 series, comprised of three feature-length episodes, follows fictionalised accounts of the investigation into the serial killer known as the Yorkshire Ripper, a prolific murderer who terrorised the area during the 1970s and 1980s.

Available to stream on Netflix in the UK from 18 July, Red Riding is written by Tony Grisoni and adapts the book series of the same name by David Peace.

The series takes place around Leeds, Bradford, Halifax, and other areas in West Yorkshire, offering a non-linear timeline of events.

Alongside Bean and Garfield, who play real estate developer John Dawson and reporter Eddie Dunford, episode one stars Rebecca Hall as the mother of a brutally murdered schoolgirl. Daniel Mays, Michelle Dockery and David Morrissey also feature in the series.

One viewer on IMDb described the show as a "turbulently dark and maturely free-flowing three part mini-series," while another viewer described it as "disturbing", sharing that the final episode "gave [them] the creeps". However, they also added that the "performance by the cast is extraordinary".

A third person said: "The Red Riding Trilogy is one of the most dense, absolutely impenetrable pieces of work I've ever seen.

"The cast and filmmakers craft wonderful work though, and despite the blackness there is a macabre, almost poetic allure to it, beauty in terror so to speak."

If this all sounds right up your street, you'll be able to stream all episodes on Netflix in just a little over a week.

Red Riding starts streaming on Netflix in the UK on 18 July.
