The Portuguese settled along the coast of Brazil.
They conquered Indians and brought Africans to slave as farmhands.
Both the Indians and Africans were converted to Catholicism.
After independence, the language and religion of Portugal were maintained in Brazil.

Though the conquerors had made inhuman demands, separation of the races was not one of them. In fact, the Portuguese often intermarried with the Africans and Indians.
The later arrivals included other Europeans and Asians, and today Brazil boasts one of the greatest blends of people on earth.
