Primary Transitional Objects

Resumo: o objetivo deste trabalho é responder à questão enunciada no título a partir dos textos de D. W. Winnicott. Para tanto, foram abordadas as origens do conceito de objeto transicional na obra do autor, o histórico de suas primeiras aparições, as referências diretas ao tema e a discussão de uma vinheta clínica. Winnicott raramente se referia a uma pessoa como objeto transicional de outra e, quando o fazia, situava essa experiência no campo da patologia, utilizando, para aludir a ela, termos como "objeto consolador", "objeto-fetiche" e "objeto regressivo". Em contrapartida, o conceito de objeto transicional está vinculado a uma experiência indicativa de saúde mental, de transição entre a fusão e a separação mãe-bebê e de uso pessoal e simbólico dos objetos do campo sensorial. Manter essa especificidade conceitual possibilita discriminar nuances da evolução do uso dos objetos materiais pela criança e orientar a anamnese, o diagnóstico e o processo terapêutico.

This paper takes as reference the concept of antisocial tendency from Winnicott’s theory of emotional development. In this theory, the environmental flaw known as deprivation, manifested in antisocial behavior, bases this tendency. Deprivation is different from privation. Privation is the absence of appropriate environmental care since the beginning of development. On the other hand, deprivation occurs as result of a situation of positive and good enough care, which continuity suffered disruption wider than the individual’s ability to keep alive the experience of a supportive environment. Broader emotional lack, there is a significant expropriation feeling after loss of those who are responsible for environmental care, than, dispossessed. Transitional objects and developing the ability to trouble Abstract: The objective of the present work is to emphasize the historical and conceptual relationship between the theory of transitional phenomena and the antisocial tendency theory, focusing on the personal and symbolic use of inanimate objects. Winnicott (1956/2005) acknowledged that deprivation, before being the result of a traumatic rupture of emotional development, is a common experience during mothering and that the transitional object is an indicator that the baby has already attained, or is about to reach, the ability to trouble. However, when traumatic, deprivation is followed by a dissociative process in which access to transitionality is regressively lost and inanimate objects become impersonal objects. A reflection derived from this theme is that of the place of the symbolic objects and the impersonal objects in our daily life and their effects in the psychic suffering of the present time.

é um conceito utilizado pela psicologia para entender como crianças que
vivem em situações adversas para seu desenvolvimento - psíquico -, sobrevivem
criativamente. São explicitados dois casos clínicos nos quais a capacidade

Transitional objects and developing the ability to trouble
Abstract: The objective of the present work is to emphasize the historical and conceptual relationship between the theory of transitional phenomena and the antisocial tendency theory, focusing on the personal and symbolic use of inanimate objects. Objets transitionnels et développement de la capacité d’incommoder
Résumé: L’objectif de cette étude est de mettre l’accent sur la relation historique et conceptuelle entre la théorie de l’objet transitionnel et la théorie de la tendance antisociale, en se concentrant sur l’usage personnel et symbolique des objets matériels. Winnicott (1956/2005) a reconnu que la privation avant d’être le résultat d’une rupture traumatique du développement émotionnel est une expérience courante pour maternage et que l’objet transitionnel est un indicateur que le bébé a atteint, ou est sur le point d’atteindre, la capacité d’incommoder. Toutefois, lorsque la privation traumatique est suivie d’un processus dissociatif dans lequel l’accès à transitionnalité est en arrière, les objets inanimés deviennent des objets impersonnels. Une réflexion résultant de ce thème est le lieu des objets symboliques et des objets impersonnels dans notre vie quotidienne et ses effets sur la souffrance mentale d’aujourd’hui.

Considered as a case study, the methodological context of selection, categorization and analyses of the film followed the concept of time-image proposed by Deleuze, systematized in three thematic temporal axis (performative time, hopelessness time and testimonial time). The analyses illustrated concepts linked to the manifestation of the antisocial acts that allow the understanding of a range of clinical symptoms of the current clinic, highlighting the playful nature of the relationship between cinema and psychoanalysis. Resumo Este artigo toma como referência o conceito de tendência antissocial inserido na teoria do desenvolvimento emocional de Winnicott. Na base dessa tendência, manifestada em condutas antissociais, está um acontecimento que se caracteriza como uma falha ambiental, denominado de deprivação. Diferente da privação, caracterizada pela ausência de cuidados ambientais adequados desde o início do desenvolvimento, a deprivação ocorre em decorrência de uma situação de cuidado positivo e suficientemente bom, cuja continuidade sofreu interrupção além da capacidade do indivíduo em manter viva a experiência de um ambiente sustentador; muito mais do que carência, há um desapossamento após perda significativa daqueles que seriam responsáveis pelo cuidado ambiental. Empreendeu-se uma articulação de aspectos desse comportamento, ilustrados pela produção fílmica biográfica Gia: Fama e destruição, que retrata a personalidade de Gia Carangi, jovem que imprimiu sua singularidade ao mundo da moda nos anos oitenta, contaminando-se com o HIV, sendo a primeira mulher vítima da AIDS. Considerado como um estudo de caso, o contexto metodológico de seleção, categorização e análise do filme seguiu o conceito de imagem do tempo proposto por Deleuze, sistematizado em três eixos temporais temáticos (tempos performático, da desesperança e testemunhal). A análise realizada ilustrou conceitos ligados à manifestação dos atos antissociais que permitem o entendimento de várias sintomatologias da clínica atual, valorizando o caráter lúdico da articulação entre cinema e psicanálise.

Departing from interrogations concerning the specificity of the psychoanalytical practice with infants, we resume the Winnicottian method known as "The observation of infants in a set situation" (Winnicott, 1941/1978a) in order to recover the theoretical and clinical range of this instrument. Through this instrument, Winnicott evaluates the psychic condition of the infant and locates his/hers behavioral pattern in a specific setting, which includes the doctor, the mother, the infant, and an object (a shiny spatula). We believe that the Winnicottian´s instrument, even though described in an article written in the 40's, is current and efficient in recognizing early signs of baby distress.
