During a plant shutdown at a terminal for liquefied petroleum (LP) and ammonia gas distribution, ... more During a plant shutdown at a terminal for liquefied petroleum (LP) and ammonia gas distribution, were inspected inner casing of two cryogenic tanks of double wall of 20,000 metri c tons capacity each, using the techniques of visual inspection, magnetic particles, penetrating liquids a nd industrial ultrasound with straight beam and angle beam, having found 23 relevant indications in the inner tank of the cryogenic gas LP storage tank and 15 in the inner tank of the cryogenic ammonia storage tank mainly u der cuts, porosities and cracking in some vertical and horizontal welds of plates that make up the rings of th e casings. Established a repair procedure, which involved the development of a welding procedure for plates of steel SA-537 Class 1, so had to site characterize the state of the metal base through field metallographic replication technique, hardness measurements and chemical composition by optical emission spectrometry. The results show that spurious waves incident from the outlet are effectively absorbed and that steady-state laminar flows can be maintained for much longer times compared to periodic boundary conditions. In addition, time-dependent anisotropies in the flow, like fluid recirculations, are convected across the outlet in a very stable and accurate manner.

The study of dispersion of solid wastes through a porous media is important in order to estimate ... more The study of dispersion of solid wastes through a porous media is important in order to estimate the ecological impact that, in particular, a radioactive solid waste could produce when it spreads in the soil. There are some models available in literature which can help one simulate the dispersion of contaminants through a porous media, taking into account the physicochemical properties of the waste and its effect over the mobility, the adsorption-desorption equilibrium, and the irreversible adsorption over the walls that constitute the channel where it diffuses. However, the majority of these models do not consider the cooperative behavior given by the presence of other species competing each other for the substrate, nor the consequences that this competition produces in the thermodynamic equilibrium of the system.
