It has also changed the routines of individuals, businesses, and governments in combating financial crimes, especially professional accountants. As front-liners in the anti-money laundering (AML) regime, professional accountants play a vital role in combating financial crime, including money laundering activities that have risen during the pandemic. However, limited study has investigated the money laundering reporting framework for the professional accountants. Moreover, many companies within the engineering sector witnessed a decline in their financial performance as a result of the pandemic. This study evaluates the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on the financial performance of the engineering sector in the emerging country-Bangladesh. The study considers the secondary data from the listed companies in the Dhaka Stock Exchange, focusing on engineering companies. This study utilized a quantitative research methodology employing a thematic approach. To evaluate financial performance, changes in net profit, changes in revenue growth, and three relative performance ratios-liquidity ratio, profitability ratio, and solvency ratio are used to compare the corporate performance before and after the COVID-19 pandemic in Bangladesh. It is found that the financial performances of the listed companies in Bangladesh are not facing as many obstacles as are observed in developed economies. This result implies that the impact of COVID-19 is sharply visible in the economy but is not as risky as the developed economy. This result will help corporate people in the developing economy adopt the necessary initiatives to cope with the upcoming natural issues.

This study aims at examining the possible effect of Corporate Social Responsibility Disclosures (CSRD) on corporate performances based on five key dimensions of CSR, among the public listed companies in Bangladesh. We have considered the Return on Equity (ROE) and leverage ratio as the proxy of dependent variable-corporate performance. Five dimensions of the CSR practices namely, environment, employee, social and community services, product and customer are considered as the proxy of independent variable-CSRD. To determine the CSRD practices of the listed company a three scale content analysis having fifty seven items has been used. To conduct the study, a sample of 196 Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) listed companies from seventeen industries has been scrutinized. In our study, we have found significant relationship between the proxy variables of corporate performances and key dimensions of the CSR practices. We have found that the listed companies disclose more information concerning to the employee related CSRD and less information on environment related CSRD. Out of five proxy variables of CSRD, the employee related CSRD and the environment related CSRD has positive impact on corporate performance while the social and community service related CSRD, product related CSRD and customer related CSRD has no significant relationship on corporate performance. The findings of the study show that CSR practices are value relevant in developing countries like Bangladesh. The findings of the study contribute to the literature of CSR in the way that more CSR disclosing companies are performing well in recent days. These findings will encourage the corporate people to involve in more CSR activities as it ensures the sustainability of corporate performances.

While many studies on the impact of ownership structure on voluntary disclosure have looked at developed and developing countries, few studies have been carried out in a transition economy. Using a three-step relative voluntary disclosure index, the study applies a multivariate analysis on the cross-sectional data for the year 2018. The findings indicate that the quality of voluntary disclosure in transition economy is still below average but has improved compared to findings from the previous literature. We found a significant inverse relationship between corporate voluntary disclosure and public ownership, while no significant relationships between voluntary disclosure and institutional ownership, director ownership, and foreign ownership have been found. The empirical findings of the study will provide evidence to promote the voluntary disclosure characterized by the ownership structures. The findings have important implications for both local and foreign investors as they make their investment decisions especially related to a transition economy. Besides, the findings will assist, not only the corporate executives in rearranging their reporting paradigm, but also the regulators and governments in similar transition economy in adopting and formulating their corporate policies and strategies.

Interestingly, many corporations in the emerging countries go for voluntary environmental disclosure even without any mandatory requirement. Recognizing the scant literature explaining such inclination this paper attempts to uncover the underlying factors that may help for future enhancement of the culture of voluntary environmental disclosure. Studying a total of 284 firm-year observations of the years 2010 to 2014 of the publicly listed companies representing all industries of Bangladesh, a linear regression model is operationalized. This study finds that voluntary environmental disclosure varies over the years and across the industries. Moreover, voluntary environmental disclosure is affected by firm size and operating performance. Interestingly, the voluntary environmental disclosure also has a habitual influence since the firms having disclosure in one year tend to disclose more in the next year. This study provides support to the applicability of organizational legitimacy theory and the institutional theory in the context of a developing country with no strict environmental disclosure requirement.

Time-series data through the year 2014 to 2017 have been scrutinized, out of which we have selected 70 effective samples because of the availability of the green banking disclosures. Multivariate analysis has been conducted where the spending on green banking is used as a dependent variable, the proxy variables of green banking disclosures. As the independent variable of financial performance, we have used three dimensions: profitability, liquidity, and solvency. The ROA, LR, and DAR have been used as proxy variables simultaneously. We found that green banking disclosures and ROA have a considerable positive relationship. In contrast, the other two financial performance variables, LR and DAR, have no statistically significant relationship with green banking spending. The study's findings will encourage the highly profitable listed banks to invest more in greening their activities, ultimately leading to sustainable development in this sector.
