The IT Infrastructure organization at Stanford University manages and supports critical technical infrastructure essential for university operations. The IT Infrastructure organization is dedicated to creating a resilient and innovative technical environment to meet the Stanford community’s evolving needs. Committed to exceptional service, we empower our clients to focus on their core objectives within the Stanford community. Included in IT Infrastructure are the following teams:
IT Facilities Infrastructure & Resilience Team (IT FIRe)
The IT FIRe team manages and supports critical technical infrastructure for the university including mission-critical facilities such as Forsythe Hall Data Center, Northwest Data Center, and the Stanford Research Computing Facility (SRCF), as well as hundreds of miles of outdoor and indoor fiber and copper cables and their conduit. Our teams include:
Technical Facilities (“TFAC”)
Oversees University IT’s technical facilities, focused on power, cooling, and security systems, as well as vendor engagement for capital projects.
Stanford Research Computing Facilities
Based at SLAC, this team maintains efficient computing environments, oversees power and cooling systems, project management, and security, and collaborates with vendors for infrastructure advancement.
Hosting Services
Responsible for the lifecycle delivery of Stanford’s on-premises and cloud infrastructure services, including capacity management, project management for data center installations, and cloud service adoption. Ensures compliance with university policies in capital asset tracking.
Facilities Engineering (FE)/Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
Provides design and construction management for university projects, oversees underground signal infrastructure, and maintains documentation and AutoCAD drawings for UIT properties.
Installation & Maintenance (I&M)
Offers installation, maintenance and inventorying services, including incident resolution through a 24/7 team, supporting many technologies, including voice, data and mobile networks, card access, and cameras.
IT Resilience

Communication Technologies Team
ITI’s Communications Technologies Team provides and supports voice, web conferencing, paging, cellular infrastructure, and other communications services across Stanford University, Stanford Health Care, and Stanford Children’s Health.
The Communications Technologies Engineering and Operations team conceptualizes, designs, implements, maintains, and manages communication hardware and software. The team installs infrastructure, provides ongoing support and updates, tests system performance and security, and collaborates with other IT and engineering teams, project managers, and business units to understand communication needs and integrate solutions within the broader IT infrastructure at Stanford.
The Communications Technologies Service Support organization supports and expands telecommunication and contact center capabilities for the university and Stanford's healthcare organizations. Daily tasks include adding, deleting, or updating phone configurations; setting up telephony and contact center services for new sites; and managing phone trees, call center menus, and features such as call recording, workforce optimization, reporting, and callback functionality.
The Automation and Service Reliability group develops, builds, and manages custom tools and solutions for clients. This includes integrating third-party APIs, building custom interfaces, and creating automation solutions critical for the seamless deployment and ongoing reliability of our services.
The Mobile Infrastructure team manages more than 25 outdoor cellular antenna or radio access network (RAN) sites and implements new infrastructure, including emergency power systems to maintain network operations during outages. The team is addressing signal challenges in buildings with distributed antenna systems (DAS) and updating design guidelines. Through continuous monitoring of cellular performance and expansion initiatives like a campus-wide 5G rollout, the team is committed to creating a resilient communications ecosystem centered on security and innovation.
