The official source2e documentation has at the end of command definitions a line of the following form (here e.g. from p. 5 of ltdirchk.dtx):

(End of definition for \strip@prefix.)

How can I achieve the same? I presume that this is typed with ltxdoc.cls. I've searched through https://github.com/latex3/latex2e/tree/develop/base for End of definition, but to no avail.

In recent releases source2e uses l3doc class (imported into source2edoc.cls and the style you describe comes from there.

% \begin{variable}{\g_@@_nested_names_seq}
% Collects all macros in nested \env{macro} environments, to use them
%   in the \enquote{End definition} text.
