UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE..
IsAAo NoAR, 0E NEW YORK, N.- Y.
N ECKTlE-FASTENER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 518,855, dated April 24, 1894. Application filed October 17,11893. Serial'No. 485,421. (No model.)
To all whom t may concern: v
Be it known that I, ISAAC NOAR, a citizen of theUnited States, and a resident of New York, in the county of New York and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Necktie-Fasteners; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to letters of reference marked thereon, which form a specification.
Figure l of the drawings is a rear view of a necktie with invention applied. Fig. 2 is an enlarged view of the fastener, and Fig. 3 is a vertical section of same.
This invention has relation to certain new and useful improvements in means for securing the neck-band of neckties, and is designed to provide a simple and efficient device of this character, and one which may be readily applied to the tie without the necessity for stitching, and which, when soapplied, cannotwork or slip out of place, but will form a secure guard for the band; and the invention consists in the novel construction and combination of parts, all as hereinafter described and pointed out in the appended claim.
As shown in the accompanying drawings, the fastening consists of a pin formed from a single piece of wire sharpened at one end to form appoint a which terminates the straight portion b of the pin. At the opposite end of said straight portion, the wire is bent obliquely and laterally, and thence around, parallel with the portion b for a distance somewhat more than one-half the length of the pin, when it is bent across the portion b, and up on the opposite side thereof, and parallel therewith, and terminates in an end c which nearly meets the lateral odset d formed by the lateral bend described at the head. The bends described form an elongated or oblong loop A of which the portion b extends substantially centrally and longitudinally, the
part of this.
lower bend e of said loop being over or above the said portion b. The pin is inserted in the fabric which is held between the pin and the loop A, as indicated, the oset d and the end c pinching the'fabric, as shown at h, so that the pin cannot be withdrawn unless the end e is raised clear of the fabric, While it will be impossible for the pin to draw through. The shape of the pin is such also as to prevent the point from moving laterally out of position to engage with the neck-band. The pin is applied to the tie at substantially the same point as are the ordinary pins for the purpose, and in such a manner that the bend e partially engages with the band, as shown, preventing the latter from working up and formingplaits in the body of the tie and spoiling its shape.
The pin may be applied to the fabric before the tie is made up, or to the lining, or after the tie is completed.
Having described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
As a new article of manufacture, the herein described improved neck-tie fastening, said fastening comprising a pin -made from a single piece of metal pointedat one end, and shaped to form a straight portion b, an oblong loop A substantially parallel with the said straight portion, which is centrally disposedwith relation to said loop, said loop being offset laterally at the head of the pin, and having its free end terminating in close relation to the said offset, said odset and free end being arranged to pinch the fabric between them and. prevent backward movement of the pin, the lower portion of the said loop partially overlying the said straight portion b, and adapted to serve as as a guard for the neck band, substantially as specified.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
ISAAC NOAR.
