Description

No. 285,159. PaJtented Sept 18 WITNESSES Attorney 6.
N. PETERS. Plmlo-Ulhagnpher, Walhmflnn. 0.1:.
. UNI'I'ED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
CLARK G. REYNOLDS, OF PROPHETSTOWN, ILLINOIS.
SEED-CORN HANGER.
SPECIFICATION forming part of Letters Patent No. 285,159, dated September 18, 1883. Application filed June 12, 1883. (No model.)
pending seed-corn, and its object is to provide a device possessing superior advantages in point of simplicity, inexpensiveness, and general efficiency, whereby the quality of the seed-corn will be enhanced;
' View of the same.
In the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective View of my invention. Fig. 2 is a sectional Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view.
Referring to the drawings, A- designates a longitudinal strip or plate, that is preferably constructed of sheet metal, and is provided with alongitudinal series of perforations or eyes, 13, as shown.
To the strip A is attached a suspendingplate, G, preferably by having a wire loop, D, arranged through perforations E at the juncture of the two plates, the top end of plate 0 being curved in the shape of a hook and pro-' vided with a slot, F, by which it can be suspended. Diagonal brace-rods G G extend from the plate A to the plate 0, to retain these parts in relative position.
H designates the pins by which the ears of corn are suspended. These pins comprise a straight portion, I, having ahook-shaped top .portion, J, which is engaged in the perforations B, and a bottom loop, K, formed with a hook end, I, that is brought over and hooked into engagement with the main portion I. This loop K encircles a groove, M, in the head of a pin or plug, N, that is driven into the butt of the ear of corn to suspend the same.
The operation and advantages of my invention will be readily understood. It is very simple and inexpensive in construction, and by suspending the corn by means of a pin or plug driven,into the butt-end of the ear, in lieu of suspending it by tying the husks together, the corn will dry much quicker, and better seed will be produced.
- I claim as my invention- 1. The combination of the main strip or plate having the eyes or perforations, the suspending-strip secured to the main strip, and
provided with the slot in its top curved end, and the suspending-pins, comprising a main portion, having a hooked top that is engaged in the eyes, and a bot-tom loop, as and for the purpose set forth.
2. The combination of the suspending strip or plate, having the perforations or eyes disposed in a longitudinal series, the pins comprising a main portion, having a hooked top engaged in said eyes, and a bottom loop, having ahooked end that is engaged with its main portion, and the plugs or pins having the groove that is engaged by the said loop, as and for the purpose Set forth.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own I have hereto aflixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
CLARK e. REYNOLDS.
