Description

Aug. 22, 1 939. c. E. GARTON CHILD'S TOY Filed Sept. 9, 1.937
N mm mm R W2 m flwm Patented Aug. 22, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE CHILDS TOY Clarence E. Garton, Sheboygan, Wis.
Application September 9, 1937, Serial No. 163,020
1 Claim.
My invention relates to improvements in a childs toy and the objects of my improvement are, first, to provide a childs toy having wheels and readily propelled by the foot of the user and, second, to provide such a toy with a spring suspended seat.
I attain these and related objects by the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which-- 10 Figure l is a side view of a toy embodying my invention and Figure 2, a front View thereof.
In the drawing the numeral l indicates a bed formed of any suitable material, preferably a steel stamping. A front pair of wheels 2 and a 15 rear pair of wheels 3 are attached beneath the bed I in any suitable manner such as by the axle extensions 4 and 5. The axle extensions 4 and 5 are provided with a flattened top portion attached in any suitable manner, as by spot weld- 520 ing, to plates 6 and 'I which are, in turn, attached to the bed I in any suitable manner, as by the bolts and nuts 8.
A tubular seat supporting member 9 of spring steel is formed with a flattened portion which 25 extends beneath the bed I and is interposed between the bed I and the plates 6 and 1 and is held in place by the bolts 8.
The seat supporting member 9 is curved upwardly and rearwardly and is flattened at H to provide a base for the upright member [2 which is provided with a pair of hand grasps l3 and also for a seat M which is attached to the extremity thereof in any suitable manner.
A child seated upon the seat propel the toy either with both feet or with one foot after the manner of the so-called scooters. The feet, when not used for propelling the toy, may be placed on the bed which is preferably formed to receive them, thus allowing the toy to coast.
The seat supporting member 9 is of such resilience as to bend somewhat under the weight of a child and thus allow a spring or bouncing movement to the seat.
The assembly forms an attractive and enter- 10 taining toy for childrens use.
It will be understood that various modifications in the specific details disclosed may be made without departing from the spirit of the invention, therefore I do not limit myself to such details but claim all devices within the spirit of the invention and the scope of the appended claim.
I claim:
In a childs toy the combination of a front plate and a rear plate, a pair of wheels attached to each of said plates, a spring seat supporting member attached to said front plate and to said rear plate and curving upwardly and rearwardly from said front plate, a seat attached to the upper extremity of said seat supporting member, an upright member attached to said seat supporting member intermediate said seat and said front plate, a pair of hand grasps on said upright memher, and a bed formed to receive the feet of a user, in superimposed relationship to the lower portion of said seat supporting member and attached thereto and to said front plate and said rear plate,
CLARENCE E. GARTON.
