APPLICATION FILED NOV. 22, 1917.

Specification of Letters Patent.
TROUSERS SUPPOBT.
Patented Feb. 11, 1919.
Application filed November 22, 1917. Serial No. 203,421.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE C'AVANAGH, a citizen of the United States, residing at Tampa, in the county of Hillsborough and 6 State of Florida, have invented a new and useful Trousers-Support, of which the following is a specification.
The subject of this invention is a trouser support intended to be afiixed to and form -10 a part of trousers.
The object of this invention is to avoid the necessity of belts or suspenders, and to support the trousers in a comfortable and natural manner without undue binding upon any part of the body.
Another object is to provide a simple, durable and efficient support.
" With the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, can be made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
A practical embodiment of the invention is shown in the accompanying d'rawing, a0 wherein:
Figure 1 is a fragmentary view in rear elevation of a pair of trousers constructed in accordance with the invention;
Fig. 2 is a view in elevation of one of the supports, a portion broken away;
Fig. 3 is an elevation of the buckle, shown in opened position.
Fig. 4 is a plan view of the buckle shown in closed position.
Referring to the drawing by numerals of reference:
In carrying out the invention there is provided a pair of trousers 1 about the waist of which are stitched or otherwise securely fastened the tabs or tongues 2.
the members of each pair being opposed, are threaded through the slidable, toothed buckles 3, which are hingedly secured to clasps 4. The clasps t serve to securely grasp the ends of a strip 5 which is preferably of suitable elastic fabric.
The buckles 3 are of a well known form in extensive use and are provided with the strap or tongue engaging teeth 6, a cross bar 7, and an end 8 the material of which is rolled about a bar of the clasp to hinge the parts together.
The clasp is of a usual form having a bell crank lever plate providing an operating arm 9 and a toothed gripping arm 10.
As will be understood, the resilient or elastic elements 5 may be drawn into the clasps to reduce or enlarge the circumference of the waist of the trousers thereby causing them to bind more or less firmly upon the person of the wearer.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new and sought by Letters Patent, is
1. The. combination with a pair of "trousers, of a pair of spaced tongues secured to the waist of the trousers toward and on each side of the back thereof, buckles slidable on the tongues, clasps secured to the buckles, and resilient elements adjustably held by the clasps whereby the waist of the trousers will be drawn at each side and toward the back.
2. A trousers support including, in combination with trousers, opposed tongues attached to the trousers, buckles slidable on the tongues, clasps hingedly secured to the buckles, and a resilient element extending between, and held by the clasps.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
GEORGE CAVANAGH.
