WIRE-HOLDER FOR INSULATORS.

To all whom z't may concern Be it known that we, ANTHONY J. RIEFER I and DAVID P.MAYs, citizens of the United States of America, residing at Pittsburgh, in the county of Allegheny and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Wire-Holders for Insulators, of which the following is a specification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawing.-
This invention relates to wire holders for insulators, and the primary object of our invention is a provision of positive and reliable means, as hereinafter set forth, for holding a wire, cable or electric conductor in connection with the insulator.
Another object of our invention is to provide a device that can be clamped upon an insulator for detachably holding a wire in a manner that permits of its speedy removal.
A further object of this invention is to accomplish the above results by mechanical construction that is durable, inexpensive to manufacture,'easy to apply to the insulator, and highly efficient for the purposes for which it is intended.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention resides in the novel construction, combination, and arrangement of parts to be hereinafter specifically described and then claimed.
Reference will now be had to the drawing, wherein Figure 1 is an elevation of the wire holder as applied to the insulator. Fig. 2 is a cross sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the detached holder, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of a bushing section.
The reference 1 denotes a peg and detachably mounted upon the peg is an insulator 2 having parallel annular ribs 3 providing an annular groove 4. Mounted in the groove 4 is a flexible split band 5 having one end thereof. provided with openings 6 and the opposite end thereof with a hinged clasp 7 adapted to extend through one of the open"- ings and clamp the band upon the insulator. The band 5', intermediate the ends thereof is provided with a holder body 8 having a longitudinal groove 9. The upper edge of the holder 8' has barrels 10 and pivotally mounted between said barrels, by a pin 11, are the barrels 12 of the holder member 13. This member confronts the holder 8 and the groove 9 of the holder 8. Arranged in the grooves 9 and 14 is a soft metal sectional bushing'15 to receive a wire 16.
The lower edge of the holder 8 has a longitudinal end flange 16 provided with an integral staple 17 that extends through an opening 18 provided therefor in the member 13. Pivotally connected to the outer sideof themember 13, as at 19, is a latch or hook 20 that'is swung into the staple, 17 to lock the member 13 in a close position. The latch is in the form of a wedge whereby the member 13 can be frictiona'lly held in engagement with the wire 16.
From the foregoing it will be observed that a wire or cable can be quickly connected to the insulator and safely held without resorting to the use of tying .or binding wires or cords.
While in the drawing there is illustrated a preferred embodiment of the invention, it
is to be understood that the structural elements are susceptible to such change as fall within the scopeof the appended claims.

A wire holderfor insulators comprising a flexible bandcapable of being clamped to the insulator, a holder body formed integral with and projecting laterally from the outer face of said band intermediate its ends and provided with a longitudinally extending groove and a shoulder, a staple projecting laterally from the lower portion of the outer face of, said holder body, a holder member having its inner face formed with a longitudinally extending groove adapted to oppose the groove of the holder body, means for pivotally connecting the top of the holder body to the holder member, said holder member provided with an opening for the passage of said staple when the holder member vis swung to engage the holder body, and means extending through ANTHONY J.
