Abstract

The invention relates to a device for the automatic determination of the efficacy of the treatment of kidney patients by haemodialysis. Its aim is to minimise the cost while simultaneously increasing the accuracy and reliability as well as integration of the measuring device into the haemodialysis apparatus. The object is to carry out during a dialysis real-time quantitative determinations of the concentration of the physiological metabolites urea and/or creatinine with a simplified electroenzymatic measuring system using the dialysate solutions present in the haemodialysis machine. The essential component of the invention is a pH electrode which is coated with immobilised enzyme and is located in a measuring cell. The metering device, which is connected to the measuring cell, for metabolite-containing solution for measurement or calibration is inserted in a dialysate outflow line leaving the dialyser outlet. A central control and analysis unit is connected to the pH electrode, the metering device and control valves in the dialysate lines. <IMAGE>
