1467127 Paper-coating compositions RHONE POULENC INDUSTRIES 13 March 1975 [14 March 1974] 10583/75 Heading C3P Paper-coating compositions comprise by weight (a) 10 to 30% of an aqueous dispersion containing as binder 20 to 60% of a waterinsoluble polymer of at least one mono- or diethylenically unsaturated monomer, (b) 0 to 10% of a water-soluble polymeric binder, (c) 60 to 90% of filler and/or pigment and (d) 0À01 to 5% by weight of (a), (b) and (c) of a high molecular weight heteropolysaccharide or mixture of said heteropolysaccharide and a gum or derivative thereof. The heteropolysaccharides may be prepared by fermentation of carbohydrates with bacteria of the Xanthomonas or Arthrobacter genus or yeasts of the Cryptococcus genus, and suitable gums are guar and carob gums and their hydroxyethyl and hydroxypropyl derivatives. Examples describe papercoating compositions comprising styrene/butadiene copolymer dispersions, heteropolysaccharides, polyvinyl alcohol and kaolin, together with (1) sodium hexametaphosphate and (2) sodium polyacrylate and satin white.
