Abstract
:A land maintenance system comprising: an autonomously movable mower (5) comprising a mower chassis (10) provided with chassis propulsion means, and a mowing unit (30) carried by the chassis (10), said mowing unit (30) having an active state and a passive state; at least one autonomously movable moisture sensor (20) being movable my means of sensor propulsion means; a control means that is configured to start a mowing operation in which the autonomously movable mower moves with the mowing unit (30) being in its active state, wherein the control means is further configured to start, prior to the mowing operation, a scouting operation in which the at least one autonomously movable sensor (20) moves and performs a scouting moisture survey, and to start or cancel the mowing operation in dependence of the outcome of the scouting moisture survey.
Claims (10)
- A land maintenance system comprising: an autonomously movable mower (5) comprising a mower chassis (10) provided with chassis propulsion means, and a mowing unit (30) carried by the chassis (10), said mowing unit (30) having an active state and a passive state; an autonomously movable moisture sensing unit (70) not being attached to the mower, said autonomously movable moisture sensing unit (70) comprising sensor propulsion means and at least one moisture sensor, a control means that is configured to start a mowing operation in which the autonomously movable mower moves with the mowing unit (30) being in its active state, wherein the control means is further configured to start, prior to the mowing operation, a scouting operation in which the autonomously movable moisture sensing unit (70) moves and performs a scouting moisture survey, and to start or cancel the mowing operation in dependence of the outcome of the scouting moisture survey.
- The land maintenance systems of claim 1, characterized in that the con- trol means evaluates the outcome of the scouting moisture survey and classifies it either as (i) not too wet to mow, or as (ii) too wet to mow, and starts the mowing operation in the case of (i) and cancels the mow- ing operation in the case of (ii).
- The land maintenance system of claim 2, characterized in that in case of (ii), the control means starts a new scouting operation after a time inter- val has elapsed.
- The land maintenance system of any one of the preceding claims, char- acterized in that the scouting moisture survey performed during the scouting operation comprises a plurality of single scouting moisture measurements at different locations.
- The land maintenance system according to claim 4, characterized in that at least the moisture measurement indicating the largest moisture of the measured locations is not taken into account by the control means.
- The land maintenance system according to any one of the preceding claims, further comprising a charging station, wherein the control means is configured to direct the autonomously movable mower (5) to the charg- ing station (60) when a mowing operation is finished.
- The land maintenance system of any one of claims 1 to 6, characterized in that at least one additional moisture sensor (20) is at- tached to the mower chassis (10), such that this additional moisture sensor (20) is a part of the autonomously mova- ble mower (5).
- The land maintenance system according to claim 6, characterized in that the at least one additional moisture sensor (20) further performs a mow- ing moisture survey during the mowing operation and the control means is configured to continue, pause, or abandon the mowing operation in dependence of the outcome of the mowing moisture survey.
- A method for maintaining a piece of land with the land maintenance sys- tem of any one of claims 1 to 8, said method comprising the steps of: (a) performing a scouting operation with the autonomously movable moisture sensing unit (70) that moves along at least a section of the piece of land and performs a scouting moisture survey, (en) evaluating the outcome of the scouting moisture survey ac- cording to (a) by means of a control means and determining if the piece of land is (i) not too wet to mow, or (ii) too wet to mow, starting a mowing operation of the autonomously movable mower (5) in case of (i), or returning to (a) in case of (ii) after elapse of a time interval.
- 10. The method of c|aim long as referring to c|aim 7 or c|aim 8, further comprising the following steps: (d) performing a mowing moisture survey during the mowing operation according to (ci) with at least one additional mois- ture sensor (20) that is a part of the autonomously movable mower (5), evaluating the outcome of the mowing moisture survey ac- cording to (d) by means of the control means, continue, pause, or abandon the mowing operation in dependence of the evaluation according to (e).
