Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the stability of a metallic paint, and to prevent the problems in the preparation or storage of the paint, such as discoloration, generation of insoluble agglomerates, etc., by using hydrated pasty aluminum powder together with a thermosetting resin as a film-forming component and an organic pigment.
CONSTITUTION: A hydrated aluminum paste is prepared by dissolving (i) water (pref. deionized water) in (ii) a water-soluble organic solvent (e.g. n-butanol), adding the solution to (iii) pasty aluminum powder, and leaving the mixture at rest at 40W70°C for ≥ 2 weeks. The amount of water is 0.2W1.5wt%, based on the aluminum powder. The objective paint can be obtained by using the above aluminum paste, a thermosetting resin as a film-forming component, and an organic pigment (e.g. anthraquinone pigment) as essential components.
USE: Metallic paint for one-coat one-bake finishing or two-coat one-bake finishing.
