Abstract
PURPOSE:To control the position and shape of a perfect solidification point within a target control range and to improve the quality of an ingot by measuring the solidification thickness within the specific position range during solidification of the ingot, estimating the perfect solidification position and changing the casting speed and cooling intensity. CONSTITUTION:In continuous casting, the solidification thickness of an ingot is detected at plural points in the width direction by means of a solidification thickness detector C within the position range where said solidification thickness is estimated to be 80-99% the perfect solidification thickness. This information and the information of a casting speed detector (a) and a cooling detecting and controlling device (b) are put into a moving ingot tracking device (e), by which they are held for a constant period. This is fed to an operator (f), and control parameters are received from a condition setter (g), whereby the position and shape of the current perfect solidfication point in the width direction are operated. The signals thereof are fed to a manipulated variable operator (h), which determines the casting speed V', the cooling intensity W' in the width direction, etc. and commands these to a casting speed setting and controlling device (d), and the device (b), thereby controlling the casting speed and the cooling intensity to target values.
