Abstract

PURPOSE: To produce a polyolefin foam having a uniform cell diameter and fine closed cells, by foaming at a specified temperature, a polyolefin to which dibenzylidenesorbitol has been added and mixed.
CONSTITUTION: To a polyolefin such as PE or an α-olefin/vinyl ester copolymer is added 0.01W10wt% of dibenzylidenesorbitol, m.p. 220°C, and the resulting mixture is foamed at a temperature higher than the m.p. of the polyolefin and lower than the m.p. of dibenzylidenesorbitol.
EFFECT: It is possible to carry out foaming at a markedly higher rate, as compared with conventional processes utilizing crosslinking foaming or superhigh polymers.
USE: Foamed films, foamed covers for communication cables, foamed duct hoses.
