Abstract

PURPOSE: To remarkably reduce the leaked amount of fluid from a shaft sealing unit by aligning a number of flexible material annular members axially at suitable interval on the outer periphery of a shaft to thereby prevent seizure of the members.
CONSTITUTION: A cylinder having collars 4 and 5 is engaged with the inner periphery of a casing 2. A number of flexible material annular members 6 are engaged with the inner periphery of the cylinder. A spacer 7 having larger inner diameter than the annular members is interposed among the respective annular members 6 to hold the annular members 6 and the spacer 7 between the collars 4 and 5. Thus, the fluid loses large energy in the gaps 8 and 9 formed among the shaft 1 and the annular members 6 and the spacer 7 to thereby lower remarkably the leaking speed to thus reduce the leaked amount of fluid. Since the annular members 6 are made of flexible material, it reduces the contacting pressure with the shaft 1 for no danger of seizure.
