Abstract
PURPOSE: To maximize the peak intensity of the spot on recording face by collimating the exit light from a semiconductor laser with a paralleling optical system of a differenct focal length in the orghogonal direction and entering the same to the pupil of an image forming lens thereby forming the beam in elliptical shape.
CONSTITUTION: Exit light from a semiconductor laser 1 is approximately collimated by a spherical lens 5c, and the beam diameter in the y (longitudinal axis) direction is magnified by a cylindrical beam expander 5d. The light out from the expander 5d passes through the image forming lens and forms its spot on the recording face 7. The luminous flux actually advancing to the recording face of this case is shown by solid lines and the luminous flux becoming 1/e2 (beam) with respect to the central intensity of the luminous flux emitted from the laser light source by dotted lines, respectively. The focal length of the lens 5c is about 6 mm and the beam diameter r with respect to the radius R of the incident pupil 8 of the image forming lens satisfies the neighborhool of r/R≈0.892. Thereby, the peak intensity of the spot on the recording face may be maximized.
