Abstract
942,518. Polyolefin films. CIBA Ltd. Jan. 17, 1962 [Jan. 19, 1961], No. 1748/62. Heading B5B. [Also in Divisions C3 and D1] Films or foils of polymers of aliphatic mono- α-olefines are optically brightened by applying to or incorporating in the polymers one or more 2,5-di[benzoxazolyl-(21)]-thiophenes, namely where Z and Z 1 are identical or different and are H or CH 3 . In an example, polyethylene is rolled on a calender to form a foil and a thiophene of formula and titanium dioxide are incorporated in the foil, which is pulled off the calender and pressed between steel platens heated to 130-135 ‹ C. to produce a smooth surface on both sides of the foil.
