Abstract

633,437. Filling capsules. BOOTS PURE DRUG CQ., Ltd., and OSCROFT, F. May 15, 1947, No. 13126. [Class 81(i)] [Also in Group XVII] Tubes fitted with puncturable self-sealing closing discs are filled with liquid in an apparatus comprising an intermittently rotating carrier 7, fitted with V-shaped tube sockets at A, B, C, D, E. The tubes move from the loading position A, via B and C, to the filling position D, where a set of lubricated pointed fillers 32 descend, pierce the closing discs and fill the tubes; on withdrawal of the fillers, the discs being held in position by spring-loaded plates 61, the tubes move to an unloading position E, where they are discharged down chute 11. The fillers 32 are firmly mounted. on a sliding head 34 moving on inclined guides 37 and operated by cam rod 53, each filler comprising two channels, one connected to a vacuum pump via pipes 89 to withdraw air from the tubes, the other to the liquid supply via pipes 88. The tubes are firmly gripped in their sockets at the filling position by a cam-operated rubberfaced bar 14 moving between the carrier 7 and the lower plate 8, both of which are fitted with holes 60 to accommodate a camoperated positioning pin, securing the carrier whilst the tubes are in the loading position.
