Abstract
406,577. Feeding batch to glassmelting furnaces. UNITED GLASS BOTTLE MANUFACTURERS, Ltd., and MOORSHEAD, T. C., 40, Norfolk Street, Strand. Aug. 1, 1933, No. 21631. [Class 51 (ii).] In the feeding of batch to a glass-melting furnace 6, a pile is formed in an outer compartment 5A of the dog-house 5, and is then transferred, by a ram 9, to an inner compartment 5B in which the surface becomes fused by the heat of the furnace before the pile enters into the actual path of the flames and hot gases. The pile is formed in the compartment 5A by first lowering a gate 7 and then putting into operation the batch feeder 4, the gate 7 being raised when the pile is formed to permit its transfer to the surface-fusing compartment 5B.
