Abstract

1536959 Valves PENNWALT CORP 4 Nov 1976 [5 Nov 1975] 45968/76 Heading F2V A self-regulating valve assembly for controlling gas flow from a gas source to a lowerpressure gas user, comprises an upstream pressure-reducing valve 16A and a downstream shut-off valve 18A. In use, a predetermined low pressure created in line 50 by the user causes the valve 18A to open whereafter a lower predetermined pressure developed in chamber 40 causes the valve 16A to open. In the event of a pressure rise in the line 50 due, e.g., to a malfunction, the shut-off valve closes and thereby isolates the relatively high pressure gas in the housing part 10 which is made stronger than the other housing parts (e.g. part 10 is of brass and part 12 is of plastics). Both valves are actuated by a respective diaphragm 30, 32. The diaphragm 30 is associated with manually-operable means 44 for lifting it to an inoperative position in which it is latched by a pair of parallel rods 64, 66, the diaphragm being automatically released when the pressure in chamber 40 is intermediate the above-mentioned predetermined pressures.
