Abstract

1456679 Drilling and screw-cutting machines LECHLER APPARATEBAU KG 17 Dec 1973 [3 Feb 1973] 58430/73 Headings B3C and B3N [Also in Division F1] A drilling and screwcutting unit comprises a casing 10, a spindle 12 mounted therein and rotated by an electric motor 14, and a pneumatic-hydraulic control 18, 17, for the spindle, which provides a fast approach and slow working feed, the feed rate being controlled by an adjustable throttle valve 50 which controls the hydraulic system 17, the valve being actuated against a spring 55 by a cam 57 on the spindle. Motor 14 drives spindle 12 through a toothedbelt-drive and planet gear 16. In operation, air is supplied from a valve 38 to the right hand side of a 12, piston 31 so that a sleeve 11, along with spindle is moved to the left, at a fast approach rate, valve 50 being forced upwardly by cam 57 against spring 55 so that fluid passes from an annulus 44 to an annulus between an hydraulic piston 43 and a seal 23, and the hydraulic fluid does not resist the feed of the piston. However, at the end of the fast approach, valve 50 moves downwardly due to a chamfer 65 on the cam and the outlet from channel 41 is partially blocked and the spindle feed rate is reduced. A further similar throttle valve 76 is used for the return travel of the spindle. To compensate for leaks in the closed hydraulic circuit a spring compensator 78 is provided so that the system can be topped-up.
