Abstract
1327317 Gas turbine bladed rotor discs - cooling GENERAL ELECTRIC CO 25 Nov 1971 [27 Nov 1970] 54757/71 Heading FIT The invention relates to a means for supplying cooling fluid to a turbine rotor blade in such a manner that the cooling fluid is uniformly distributed to passages in the blade. The blade shown comprises a hollow core 12 formed at its outer surface with series of longitudinally-extending grooves 13a, and an outer skin 11 which defines with the grooves series of cooling fluid ducts 13. The blade core is formed with longitudinallyextending tongue pieces 19 which are received within correspondingly shaped annular grooves 23 formed at the rim 22 of the rotor disc, the tongue pieces being secured therein by brazing. Platform members 26 extend between the lower portions of each pair of adjacent blades 10, each platform being formed at its radially inner side with circumferentially-extending ribs 29 which co-operate with and are secured to the ribs 24 of the rotor disc which define the grooves 23. Cooling fluid is supplied to two annular troughs 32, 32a formed in the rim of the rotor disc, the fluid passing from the troughs through radial bores 34 into the grooves 23 adjacent the leading and trailing edges of the blade. The edges of the platforms adjacent the concave side of one blade and the convex side of the adjacent blade are formed with lips 31 which constitute weirs. The annular ribs 24 are cut away at 24a adjacent the blade surfaces so that cooling fluid can pass from the outer grooves 23 into the other grooves 23, the cooling fluid then passing over the weirs 31 and into the cooling fluid passages 13 in the blades. The cooling fluid passes from the passages 13 into manifolds 14 at the tip of the blade, the fluid then discharging through outlet 16 and being collected in an annular recess 17 in the turbine stator casing. Some fluid from a bore 34 passes directly into a passage 34a extending adjacent the leading edge of the blade. The radially inner edge surfaces of the lips 31 are essentially formed as cylindrical surfaces about the axis of rotation of the rotor.
