Abstract

1,197,767. Discontinuous coating. LUCTEM ETABS. 19 Dec., 1967 [29 Dec., 1966], No. 57559/67. Heading D1L. [Also in Divisions B1 and B2] An apparatus for applying a coating to a carrier material has a drum 5 rotatable about a horizontal axis to which a thermoplastic substance is applied through dispenser 6. A stationary blade 7 parallel with the longitudinal axis of the drum has recesses therein which form the coating into strips. A second blade 8 is mounted for reciprocation towards and away from the periphery of the drum and is secured to a pivotally mounted arm 9 which is moved up and down by rotating cam. The strips of thermoplastic material are thereby divided into individual accumulations having a thin film of thermoplastic material therebetween. The drum is heated in a zone 14 and cooled in an adjacent zone 15. The carrier material is conducted from a supply roller 12 to the drum and is pressed against the drum by roller 12a.
