Abstract
Description
The present invention relates to a device capable of ensuring the eventual mixing of two or more components.
It is known that, in particular in the field of medicinal preparations, it is often imperative, whether due to the instability of the final product or the need for sterile preservation of the basic products, not to mix the essential constituents of the preparation only at the time of its use.
Many devices have already been proposed for carrying out this mixing; these devices are most often constituted by two chambers separated by a membrane, and it is the perforation or rupture of this membrane which makes it possible to ensure, at the time of use, the mixing of the elementary constituents.
The present invention relates to a device allowing the eventual mixing of two or more components contained in two separate chambers, and generally contained one inside the other, at least one of which is sealed, and whose originality consists in that that one of the chambers is equipped with means allowing it to firstly be closed in a leaktight manner by creating a pressure below atmospheric pressure and in a second time to break this seal by any mechanical means or depression while releasing the component it contains in the other chamber.
The present invention will be better understood by tailors and its advantages will emerge clearly from the following description of several embodiments of the device according to the invention with reference to the appended schematic drawing in which
Figures ia 7 show embodiments of the device according to the invention more specifically applicable to applicators including those of the dropper type Figures 3 and 4 showing two embodiments of one of the chambers.

In the figures, the device according to the invention comprises at least a first chamber 2, containing one of the components 3 of the mixture to be produced in the long term and a second chamber 4 containing the other element 5 of the mixture. The first chamber 2 is, according to the invention, equipped on the one hand with means allowing it to be sealed off in a sealed manner by creating a pressure below atmospheric pressure and on the other hand with means allowing it to break this seal by releasing component 3 and allowing mixing of the latter with component 5 at the time of use. In the embodiment shown in FIG. 3, the chamber 2 is compartmentalized; it is twofold in the embodiment shown in FIG. 4.
The device shown in Figures 1 to 4 can be adapted to any applicator.
In this embodiment, the means allowing the first chamber 2 to be sealed in a sealed manner by creating a pressure lower than the atmospheric pressure are constituted by the plug 6, the dimensions of which are calculated to closely fit at the opening of chamber 2. This plug 6 is provided at its center with an orifice 7 provided for receiving a shutter 8 extended at its outer part by a tongue 9. This plug 6, the opening 7 of which has been closed by the shutter 8 is introduced into the opening of the chamber 2 previously filled with the appropriate dose of the component 2; the assembly constituted by the chamber 2, the plug 6 closed at 7 by the shutter 8 is subjected to the action of the vacuum; in a second operation, this assembly is placed on the chamber 11 containing the second component 5 of the future mixture and the whole is coated with a conventional sealing 10 which ensures the safety of prior non-use.
The mixing operation is shown in Figure 2.
With the cover 10 removed, a manual pull exerted on the tongue 9 makes it possible to break the seal of the chamber 2 by putting it back to atmospheric pressure, this chamber 2 no longer being pressed by the action of the vacuum against the inner face of the stopper 6 falls inside the chamber 4 where the components 3 and 5 are mixed.
In the embodiment represented in FIG. 2, more specially adapted to an applicator of the dropper type, the means allowing the chamber 2 to be closed in leaktight manner by creating pressure less than atmospheric pressure are constituted by a joint there provided with a central orifice 12 intended to receive a stud 13, integral with the internal wall of the head 14 of the dropper, and coaxial with the orifice 12. This stud li extends on the external wall of the head 14 of the dropper by a tongue 15 integral with said external wall.
The seal 11 is first of all placed at the base of the head 14 of the dropper, in the lower end of the latter, the stud 13 being pressed into the orifice 12 of the seal.
The chamber 2, containing the component 3 of the future mixture is placed against the lower part of the joint li, the orifice 12, blocked by the stud 13 being located substantially in the center of the opening of the chamber 2. The set cons titrated by the chamber 2, the seal 11 and the dropper head 14 is subjected to the action of vacuum; this assembly is then placed on the chamber 4 containing the second component 5 of the future mixture.
At the time of use, it suffices for the user to exert traction on the tongue 15 to release the stud 13, thus returning the chamber 2 to atmospheric pressure; chamber 2 then falls into chamber 4 where the constituents 3 and 5 are mixed.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 6, the means allowing the chamber 2 to be sealed in a sealed manner by creating a pressure below atmospheric pressure form an integral part of the base of the applicator 16 this applicator 16 closed at its upper end at 17, in fact has a portfolio-shaped base comprising two sealing lips 18 which closely follow the upper edges li of the chamber 2. In this embodiment, this is the whole - ble constituted by the chamber 2 (previously filled with the component 3) and by the applicator 16 whose lips 18 match the upper edges of the chamber 2 which will be placed at a pressure below atmospheric pressure by the action of vacuum, before d 'be placed on the second chamber 4 containing the second component 5. The shapes and dimensions are calculated so that once the applicator 16 / chamber 2 assembly is positioned on the chamber 4, the deformation ela plastic stic constituting the applicator 16 allows the chamber 2 to press on the bottom of the chamber 4 which improves the being cheity. At the time of use, it is by cutting or breaking the upper end 17 of the applicator 16 that the chamber 2 will be returned to atmospheric pressure, the wallet shape will be unfolded by pulling on the applicator 16, which will release the chamber 2 and we will allow, as in the case of the modes d execution previously described, in component 2 which it contains to mix with component 2 contained in chamber 4.
Finally, in the embodiment shown in the figure, it is the applicator itself which constitutes the first chamber 2. The lower part of the applicator 20 is closed by the plug 21 in the central part of which is provided an orifice intended to receive the shutter 22 which extends upwards, in the applicator, by a finger 23. In the embodiment shown in the drawing, there is also provided, at the base of the shutter 22 a horizontal return coming to press against the face of the plug 21 intended to be in contact with the chamber 4. The shutter 22 has at 34 a rod making it possible to improve the seal. The upper end of the applicator 20 is closed, at 24. The chamber 2 containing the component 2 will be sealed off by creating a pressure below atmospheric pressure by subjecting the assembly constituted by the applicator 20, the plug 21, the central orifice of which is provided with the shutter 22, under the action of the vacuum; this assembly will then be placed on the second chamber 4 containing the component 5. At the time of use, the user will only have to cut or break the end of the applicator 20 to restore the chamber 2 to the pressure at atmospheric and break the seal; a simple pressure exerted on the finger 23 will allow the component 2 which, in this case is preferably the liquid element without this however constituting a limit to the invention, to reach the chamber 4 where it will be mixed with the component 2.
In the embodiment shown in Figure 8, the device according to the invention is designed to be adapted to a syringe.
In this embodiment, it is the piston 25 of the syringe which constitutes the chamber 2 into which the component 3 has been introduced (in this case the liquid element) via the orifice 26 formed in the face plane 27 of the end piece of the piston 25; this orifice 26 is eccentric. A flexible seal 28 pierced with an orifice 29, with the same eccentricity as the orifice 26 is placed on the external face of the flat face 27 of the end piece of the piston 25 so that the two orifices 26 and 29 are diametrically opposite or at least in non-correspondence.
The seal 28 is specially designed to avoid any rupture of the vacuum during the introduction of the piston 25 - seal 28 into the body 31 of the syringe. A soft natural rubber lip seal is suitable for this purpose. The other, closed end of the piston 25 is equipped, on its outer face, with a gripping device 30, a ring in the case shown in the drawing; it can also be fins or any other comparable device.
The assembly, formed by the piston 25, filled with the liquid 2, and the seal 28 is placed in a vacuum pump in order to achieve the sealed closure of the chamber 2 by creating a pressure below atmospheric pressure.
This assembly is pressed into the body 31 of the syringe, the tip E of which is firm, and which constitutes the second chamber 4 in which the second constituent 5 of the future mixture has been previously deposited. During this operation, care is taken in the conventional way to extract the air (or the neutral gas in the case of an ox-dahle product) from the chamber 4 thus formed, so that the pressure of this chamber is equal to atmospheric pressure.
During use, the user, holding the syringe in one hand, pulls the plunger 25 with the other hand using the gripping device 30. A vacuum is created in the chamber 4, which becomes soon enough to become substantially equal to that of chamber 2, thus breaking the seal of the vacuum while retaining a mechanical seal.
I1 is provided at the top of the syringe body 31 and inside, grooves 32 - or any other equivalent means - making it possible to block the seal 28 when the user has fully pulled the piston 251 The user then turn the piston 25 by 1800, the seal 28 being blocked; the two orifices 26 and 29 are then placed in communication and the component 3 contained in the chamber 2 passes into the body of the syringe (chamber k) containing the component 5. Once the mixing of the components 3 and 5 has been carried out, it suffices to return the piston 25 of 1800, the seal still being blocked, to cut off the tip 32 of the syringe and to adapt a needle to it for instillation
As is obvious, and as is clear from the foregoing, the present invention is not limited to the sole embodiments described above by way of examples, it embraces, on the contrary, all the variant embodiments which let there be in particular the composition of the material constituting the chambers 2 and 4, the composition both of the means allowing the chamber 2 to be sealed in a leaktight manner by creating a pressure lower than atmospheric pressure than the means allowing at the time of use , to break this seal, in particular, in the simplest embodiment (not shown) comprising only a plug 6, a chamber 2 and a chamber 4, where it suffices for the user to break the seal of the assembly 6 + 2 to pass the needle of a syringe into the stopper 6 and to withdraw the mixture of products 3 and 5 by these same needle and syringe, and the components 3 and 5 contained respectively in the chambers 2 and 4 can understand from, be in liquid or solid form.
