Abstract

The process reduces the vapour cloud formed above a cooling tower when the ambient air is relatively cold and humid, the water in the tower being partly in direct and partly in indirect contact with the atmosphere. The total surface of water in direct contact with the air is reduced, typically by reducing the flow rate of the water concerned, or the height for which this contact takes place. There can be a selector device regulating the quantity of water in direct contact by diversion through a dry heat exchanger, situated below the direct contact area.
