Abstract

The marine excavator manipulates a grab by a barge two divergent and adjustable traction cables. The alignment of the cables also approximates to the horizontal and each extends from the grab to traverse an idling pulley and return vertically to the barge. The pulleys locate on anchor blocks which are lowered from the barge. The grab and the two blocks, thus, occupy the apices of a triangle in plan. Each of the cables may attach to a winch through a pulley sheave, and the respective winches may be located on opposite sides at the stern of the barge. A further winch at the bow may operate a third cable which is attached to the grab and controls its vertical position.
