Process for process control of a laser or plasma deposition welding process in which a workpiece is melted by a laser or plasma beam and deposition material is introduced into the welding site, the weld site characteristics (HP, PH, GF, MW, FP) are identified by means of an emission spectrum obtained by means of a spectrometer, and variations in one or more process parameters can be recognized.
