Description
Arc lamp with high-melting electrodes arranged immovably relative to one another. The present invention relates to an arc lamp provided with high-melting (ie having a melting point of at least 2,000 'C.) Electrodes which are immovably arranged relative to one another and which is constructed in such a way that the light radiation emanates from the glowing electrodes when it is in operation .
To reduce the ignition voltage of such lamps: It has already been proposed to lower the pressure of the filling gas in the lamp. A practical limit for this measure is the increasing atomization of the electrodes in the company as the filling pressure drops.
It is also known to install auxiliary electrodes made of magnesium to reduce the ignition voltage, which supply the necessary pre-ionization for the ignition of the main electrodes.
On the other hand, it is known that in lamps in which the light radiation does not come from the glowing electrodes, but from vapors and gases in the gas line, the ignition voltage is reduced by an external excitation, be it an auxiliary discharge or an electrically heated filament can be set.
The invention now represents an application of the latter means in the aforementioned arc lamps. The arc lamp according to the invention is thus characterized in that it has a heating wire that has the purpose of preheating the electrodes when the lamp is started up.
It is thus possible to search after executed Ver to build arc lamps with the light radiation delivering, glowing electrodes, which can be ignited by the low voltage of the normal network without a high-voltage transformer.
In the accompanying drawing, an exemplary embodiment from the subject of the invention is shown schematically. In the closed glass vessel g, which contains a gas that is chemically indifferent to the other building materials of the lamp, there are the power supply lines and supports a, a, for the electrodes b ,, b2, and c "d, for the electrode heating wire cd, which runs in turns around the electrodes, melted down.
The power supply lines c "d are independent of those of the electrodes. They consist of refractory metals, carbon, graphite (all first class conductors), metal oxides or silicates.
To start the lamp, a, a, and c ,, dl are connected to voltage; after a short time the arc is ignited, after which the filament c-d is switched off from the outside.
