Abstract

A rotatable crown for a rotary drill bit comprises a working end (20) which presents a working face (26) for the crown and an opposite end (12) for engagement with a drill rod, stringer or adaptor coupling. The working end (20) comprises a mass of discrete abrasive particles (29) uniformly distributed through a bonding matrix, and a plurality of elongate abrasive elements (30) so arranged in the matrix that ends (30-A) thereof are located in the working face (26). The working face (26) has a serrated profile with alternating peaks (28) and troughs (28A). The ends (30A) of the elongate elements are located in peaks (28). <IMAGE>
