Abstract

International business involves interactions between countries in various forms, such as foreign direct investment and multinational corporations, which face communication challenges due to cultural differences. Expatriate workers, in particular, must adapt to new environments and communicate effectively with individuals from different cultural backgrounds. Mastery of English is an absolute requirement for employees in multinational companies, as this language serves as a communication tool and determinant of competitiveness in the global market. This study aims to explore the role of English language training in improving intercultural communication skills in multinational companies. Using a literature review methodology, this study analyzed academic journals and relevant sources published in the last ten years to assess the effectiveness of English language training programs. The results show that effective training not only improves linguistic proficiency, but also fosters cultural awareness and sensitivity. The contribution of this study lies in a deeper understanding of the relationship between language training and intercultural communication, as well as implementation strategies that can be applied to improve communication effectiveness in multinational companies.

Abstract

International business is a business activity carried out between one country and another. International business activities can be carried out in various forms of Foreign Direct Investment, licensing, franchising, and multinational corporation (MNC). According to Rugman, a multinational company is a company that produces abroad in addition to the parent country and operates across national borders. The development of multinational companies in Indonesia is currently very rapid supported by Indonesia's growing economic conditions. The increasing number of multinational companies in Indonesia also goes hand in hand with the increasing need to hire more workers from various countries that allow them to communicate with foreign workers stationed in Indonesia. Interaction that occurs beyond the boundaries of language and cultural differences, demanding the ability of each party to be able to understand the differences that exist is referred to as intercultural communication. The purpose of this study is to analyze how cross-cultural communication training in multinational companies in the Nusantara Industrial Zone SEZ Sei Mangkei. This research uses a qualitative method that produces descriptive data in the form of written, spoken words from people and observed behavior. With data collection techniques, namely library research, questionnaires and observation. The results showed that cross-cultural communication training at the multinational company Nusantara Industrial Estate SEZ Sei Mangkei was motivated by the existence of cross-cultural communication barriers with foreign investors, namely language differences that can lead to misunderstandings and failure of business agreements. To ensure that its employees use the English language skills acquired from the training program, the company implements daily work in speaking English.

Abstract

Saat ini, inovasi telah berkembang dan tumbuh dengan cepat. Semua kegiatan operasional bergantung pada teknologi karena perkembangan teknologi yang begitu pesat. Teknologi seakan menjadi sebuah kebutuhan yang digunakan di berbagai bidang. Sebagai institusi pendidikan yang berbasis IT, Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara (UIN SU) menggunakan Database System dalam Sistem Informasi Manajemen (SIM) untuk mengikuti perkembangan teknologi. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pentingnya peranan sistem basis data dalam sistem informasi manajemen pada UINSU (Universitas Islam Negerri Sumatera Utara). Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif yang dilakukan di daerah tersedianya sumber informasi penelitian seperti perpustakaan yang ada di kampus II UINSU (Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara) Jln. William Iskandar Pasar V, Percut Sei Tuan, Kab. Deli Serdang Sumatera Utara. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa peranan sistem database dalam sistem infomasi manajemen pada UINSU: (1) Membuat manajemen data lebih efisien dan efektif, (2) Membuat informasi lebih akurat dan cepat, (3) Membuat data lebih aman, (4) Mempermudah pengintegrasian data, dan (5) Membuat akuntabilitas dan transparansi menjadi lebih penting.
