Abstract

Introduction: The ageing process in older adults could cause a decreasing salivary secretion. Indicators of salivary secretion could be measured by observing an increasing salivary volume and pH, and a decreasing salivary viscosity. This study was aimed to observe the performance of 1% solution of baking soda on the salivary secretion of elderly xerostomia patients. Methods: The study used the quasi-experimental method with purposive sampling technique. The subjects were 24 older adults who were administered with 1% solution of baking soda. Results: The results showed that the averages volume, pH, and viscosity of the saliva before rinsing with 1% solution of baking soda were lower than after rinsing with the solution (p < 0.005). The average values of volume and pH of saliva before rinsing of 1% solution of baking soda were 0.15ml/min and 5.4, respectively, whilst after rinsing with the solution were 0.14ml/min and 7.42, respectively. The difference in saliva viscosity before and after rinsing with the solution showed that there were changes in the viscosity from frothy to watery. Conclusion: 1% solution of baking soda solution was able to increase the salivary secretion of elderly xerostomia patients, observed from an increasing salivary volume and pH, and a decreasing salivary viscosity after rinsing with 1% solution of baking soda.

Abstract

Pain is a natural process in labor. The response of pain is different between one and another it is influenced by factors depended in body’s resistance mechanism since labor process. The factors are age, gender, pain’s mean, attention, previous experience, coping style, family’s support, afraid, worried, personality, fatigue, culture and social. Acupressure is one of the best non-pharmacology techniques in easiest management of labor pain, cheapest, and can be done by all of people because needs only two hands in therapy implementation. The objective of this research is to identify the influence af acupressure therapy on hands to labor pain of active phase in period I. This research was queasy experiment with non-equivalent pretest-posttest design. The population of this research was inpartu woman at PMB. Ratri Restuni, S.ST Samarinda. The sampling technique used non random sampling technique; it was the sampling quota of 15 people in intervention group and 15 people in control group. Data collection was obtained by doing interview and giving acupressure. The research finding shows that there is significant differences between pain scale before and after intervention in intervention group with t-value = 11,117 and p-value 0,05, in average pain scale of intervention group before and after intervention is 68.7, it decreases to 4.37, control group is 6.80 and there is no decreasing; the average period of this is 13 minutes and then increasing again. Acupressure therapy has to be applied in giving inpartu care in period I of active phase to decrease labor pain. For next researchers, they are expected to do more research by taking other variables that can influence labor pain; which are coping, family support, and personality.

Abstract

The process of psychological adaptation in a mother has been started since the mother was pregnant. Pregnancy and childbirth are normal events in life, however many mothers experience significant stress in undergoing the process. Family responsibilities will increase with the presence of newborn babies. The encouragement and attention of other family members is positive support for the mother. Postpartum depression is a disorder that is really considered a psychopathology that most often precedes suicide, so it is not uncommon to end in death. Factors that influence the success of the transition to parenthood during the postpartum period are, respond to support from family and friends, The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of family support with the risk of postpartum depression. This research is a quantitative study, with a cross sectional approach. The sample of this study was postpartum mothers who came to the Sleman Distirct Hospital totaling 110 respondents and the sampling technique uses quota sampling. The result of this study based on the chi squre statistical test results obtained a value (p-value) 0.413. The p-value is greater than α 0.05 so that there is no relationship between family support and the risk of postpartum depression. Postpartum depression is not only influenced by family support but also other factors such as employment, education, age and parity. For next research, they are expected to do more research by taking other variables that can influence postpartum depression.

Abstract

The postpartum period is a vulnerable period to infection due to low immunity. An increase in leukocytes characterizes the body's response to infection; several leukocytes close to normal values indicate that the infection period will end. The research objective was to determine the effectiveness of Rhodomyrtus tomentosa leaf extract on the number of leukocyte cells in mothers with postpartum infections at Tarakan City General Hospital. The research used an Analytical survey with a sample of postpartum mothers who came to the Tarakan City General Hospital (April-August 2022). Criteria for Group 1 were mothers with postpartum infections and had not been given any therapy; Group 2 were healthy postpartum mothers; Group 3 were mothers with postpartum infections who were given standard therapy; Group 4 is mothers with postpartum infections who were given standard therapy and on the doctor's advice the day before they were given Karamunting leaf extract as additional therapy. The research results show that giving Rhodomyrtus tomentosa leaf extract with standard therapy reduces the number of leukocytes to close to normal values, so it can be concluded that it has an anti-inflammatory effect on mothers with postpartum infections. Further clinical trial research is needed with adequate samples and more uniform conditions for each sample.

Abstract

Abstract:  The second highest cancer incidence rate for women is cervical cancer of 23.4 per 100,000 population with an average death rate of 13.9 per 100,000 population. The high mortality rate due to cancer is caused by the delay in early detection. A simple method that can be done is the Visual Acetate Inspection (IVA) test. This method only requires diluted kitchen acetic acid. But unfortunately the number of women who do IVA examinations has decreased every year. North Kalimantan Province in 2020, women who were targeted for IVA examinations were recorded at 2.5% and decreased in 2021 Meanwhile in 2021 this figure decreased to 1.6%. The decline in the number of women doing IVA is due to the low awareness of Indonesian women, especially about cancer. Based on preliminary data obtained from Puskesmas Pantai Amal, information was obtained about the low IVA coverage in their working area. So that lecturers and students from the Department of Midwifery, Faculty of Health Sciences, Borneo Tarakan University participate in supporting government programs to increase IVA coverage in early detection of cervical cancer.

Abstract

Stunting is a growth disorder that generally occurs in children under five and the cases are increasingly worrying. Based on the results of the survey, the stunting rate in Nunukan Regency is the highest in North Kalimantan. Until now, the number of stunting cases in Nunukan has reached 1,101 children under five and spread across 21 villages. And one of the villages affected by stunting is Srinanti Village, Seimanggaris District. Seimanggaris can take advantage of the climatic village area where the strategy to be applied is in the form of planting tarp trees (Artocarpus odoratissimus) which have various health benefits and also a form of savings to increase the supply of tarap seed raw materials in the future for the processing of Sutarma innovation "Tarap Date Milk". Midwives as a dynamic profession must keep up with the development of this era, participate in developing themselves to participate in the global game, in the form of the active role of midwives in improving the quality of services, education and professional organizations with a commitment to refer to regulations. The purpose of the training is to increase the understanding of midwives who carry out the Independent Midwife Practice on the prevention and control of Covid-19 infection so as to limit direct deaths and avoid an increase in indirect deaths and maintain the quality of midwifery services from decreasing, as well as the rights of mothers and babies can still be fulfilled

Abstract

Indonesia is currently facing nutritional problems with many incidents of stunting (short toddlers). Based on the Nutritional Status Monitoring (NSM) over the last three years, short toddlers have the highest prevalence compared to other nutritional problems such as malnutrition, thinness, and even obesity. Based on data from the BKKBN for the last 2 years, there were 3,066 babies experiencing malnutrition spread across five city districts in North Kalimantan and Malinau District, including City District where the stunting rate is quite high and Lubak Manis Village which is one of the stunting loci. Stunting causes children to grow unhealthy, their brain development is not optimal, and can cause mental disabilities. Therefore, efforts to overcome stunting can be done through improving nutrition for babies. One alternative solution to overcome this problem is by providing additional food made from local and protein. The aim of this community service is to utilize the potential of natural resources, namely tofu and Moringa leaves which are quite easy to obtain in the village. The targets of this community service activity are posyandu cadres and PKK mothers in Lubak Manis village. The method used in this community service is education on preventing stunting and processing tofu and Moringa leaves into Naget as additional food for children and toddlers (PALANG SIGEMOY). This community service was carried out for 2 days in May, namely on  May 15,16 2024. The place of this service activity was the Posyandu building in Lubak Manis village, Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan. The results of the activity were that the community was able to understand the benefits of food containing nutrients from tofu and Moringa leaves as additional food to overcome stunting and innovate the processing of tofu and Moringa leaves into delicious and nutritious nuggets as additional food ingredients for stunted babies and toddlers.
