Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the impact of the revitalization of Early Childhood Education (PAUD) in Sembuang Village, East Aceh, through the Melayu Serumpun Community Service Program (KKN). The PAUD experienced a decline in student numbers and eventually ceased operations for a year due to the neglected and unattractive physical environment for children. This condition led to a decrease in children's interest in attending school. The revitalization program carried out by KKN students aimed to improve the physical condition of the PAUD and rekindle children's enthusiasm for learning in the village. The revitalization steps included cleaning the school area, repairing facilities, and decorating classrooms with educational decorations to create a more engaging and conducive learning environment. This research employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach, conducted from July 25, 2024, until the end of the KKN period. Data were collected through interviews with PAUD teachers, parents, the community, and KKN students, as well as direct observations and documentation of the revitalization activities. The analysis was carried out through data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of the study showed a significant increase in the number of children attending PAUD after the revitalization, from 10 children before the program to 25 children afterward. Additionally, the active involvement of the community in physical projects such as the creation of waste bins and the construction of stairs highlighted their high level of participation, which was a key factor in the success and sustainability of the revitalization program. Community participation not only accelerated the implementation of the revitalization but also enhanced the sense of ownership and responsibility for early childhood education in Sembuang Village.

Abstract

This article examines the application of Islamic criminal law standards in the context of contemporary crime anticipation. Islamic criminal law, which is based on ethical and moral values, offers a relevant approach to dealing with various forms of crime today, such as cybercrime, bullying based on fear, and insults. This research distinguishes several standards of Islamic criminal law, enumerates standards of justice, legal certainty and practicality, and looks at how these standards can be coordinated into a positive legal framework to make legal enactment more successful. Additionally, this article emphasizes the importance of justice and beneficial remedies in dealing with offenders, in order to re-establish exasperated social relationships. Thus, the application of Islamic criminal law standards is expected to provide comprehensive and relevant regulations in facing the challenges of modern crime, while still paying attention to human rights standards and human values.

Abstract

MTs Budi Agung students find it difficult to learn Arabic, even though learning Arabic is very important. This study aims to identify the difficulties of grade VII students of MTs Budi Agung in learning Arabic and the factors that influence it. This study uses a descriptive qualitative method with observation and interview data collection techniques. This study involved around 30 grade VII-6 students and Arabic teachers as subjects. Data collection techniques were carried out through participant and non-participant observation and structured and unstructured interviews. Data were analyzed using a descriptive qualitative analysis method with theme analysis techniques. The results showed that students had difficulty in understanding sentence structure, vocabulary, and pronunciation due to lack of learning motivation, parental support, and teacher ability and development of Arabic learning strategies. These factors have an impact on low academic achievement and student learning motivation, so that students have difficulty learning. The results of the study suggest that it is necessary to improve teacher skills, develop interactive learning strategies, improve communication between teachers-students-parents, and provide varied learning resources. This study contributes to the development of Arabic language education in Indonesia and can be used as a reference for teachers and schools to improve the quality of Arabic language learning.

Abstract

Background: Psychological distress and uncertainty intolerance in cancer patients are linked to various physical consequences and negative psychological impacts, such as increased symptom severity, disruption in daily life, and reduced quality of life. These issues also affect family caregivers of cancer patients. This study aims to describe the psychological distress, uncertainty intolerance, and quality of life in cancer patients and their family caregivers. Methods: This was a cross-sectional study with 57 cancer patients and 57 caregivers at Dr. Sardjito Hospital, Yogyakarta-Indonesia, in July-August 2023. Psychological distress was measured by using the Kessler Scale (K-10), uncertainty using the Intolerance Uncertainty Scale (IUS-12), and quality of life using the EORTC QLQ-C30 and SF-36. Data were analyzed using Mann-Whitney and Kruskal-Wallis tests. Results: Significant differences were found in uncertainty intolerance between patients and caregivers (p=0.001) and caregivers’ marital status (p=0.045). Quality of life varied among patients based on age, gender, marital status, cancer type, and treatment (p0.05). Caregivers’ quality of life differed by age in physical and emotional roles (p≤0.005). Conclusions: There is a significant difference between the intolerance uncertainty of cancer patients and family caregivers. Meanwhile, the quality of life of cancer patients and the quality of life of family caregivers have differences in each scale and domain in several of their demographic characteristics. Longitudinal studies are needed to understand the trajectory of psychological distress and uncertainty intolerance over time.

Abstract

This study aims to improve the understanding of nahwu and shorof (Arabic grammar and morphology) among eighth-grade students of MTs Swasta Swadaya Batang Serangan Langkat through the implementation of the role-playing learning model. The research used a classroom action research (CAR) approach based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model and was carried out in two cycles. Data collection instruments included pre-test and post-test, observation sheets, and open interviews. Quantitative data were analyzed using a paired t-test, while qualitative data were analyzed using the triangulation technique. The results showed a significant improvement in student achievement. In the first cycle, the average score increased from 54.60 to 71.70 (an increase of 31.32%), and in the second cycle from 69.70 to 83.67 (an increase of 20.04%). Observations and interviews also revealed that students became more confident, active, and accurate in applying Arabic grammatical rules in spoken communication. It can be concluded that the role-playing model is effective in improving students’ understanding of Arabic grammar and morphology in muhadatsah (Arabic conversation) and holds strong potential for application in broader language learning contexts. This study not only contributes practically to the context of Arabic language learning, but also reinforces the position of role-playing as a method that simultaneously addresses the linguistic and psychological aspects of learners. This is in line with Shaftel's theory regarding the importance of social-emotional experiences in meaningful learning processes.
